Danni Filth's band is a derivative black metal inspired goth metal band, so take anything he says about "true black metal" with a grain of salt.

I do think a good bit of the impetus behind the so-called first and second waves of black metal cannot be sustained much longer. The scene will go on, of cousre, for years and years probably. So in that sense it's not dead. But whether it's a living and growing "movement" anymore I think it pretty doubtful. Early black metal, particularly the second wave, had a fairly defined ideology. I don't think the scene nowadays can really say that.

I don't think Cradle of Filth have considered themselves black metal for quite a while. When they first started, they were more BM than they are now but I think Dani would know true BM from what he writes. I don't think it's dead because of so many underground bands are still out there but they're not getting the attention that they used to. Now those bands that got the attention have strayed away from what we call true. I still consider bands like Satyricon and Dimmu Borgir black metal but really it's nothing like early Burzum or Emperor or even their own early releases.

Divine_intent: If you could take your comment, print it out, roll it up, and fuck yourself with it I would be most grateful.

No, the Black Metal scene is not dead...
But its about time we get some new influeces into it.
If it continues on the path its going right now, it will soon be dead.

Im really tired of bands trying to copy the legendary Black Metal bands like Darkthrone, Emperor and Mayhem.
There is virtually no Black Metal bands trying to go their own way anymore...

well duh!...ha ha...black metal is thrash/melodic death metal with satanic, suicidal, hate, and war lyrics....

the black metal scene is still alive and well...and i know over here in the USA around where i live...so many people are waiting for more black metal bands to come...

but the whole burning churhes shit isnt there anymore...well maybe it is...there are still some people in scandanavia and norway who still stay troo to their roots...
