i do it. some of my biggest steps in music have been from blind purchases.

my first metal album other than metallica or sabbath, for example, was Opeth - Blackwater Park, cause i saw it in a store and the cover looked nice. I never listen to it now, four years later, but it exposed me to so much of what I listen to now, and led me to these forums. wtf?

Once in a while, but I don't actually go totally blind. Even the blindest of purchases would be the result of at least a reco from a trusted friend. Or an album from a band I know will not disappoint me (sometimes a mistake).

If it's a band I know and love, then yes -- almost 100% of the time.

If it's an album that's been raved to death *by people I trust*, got great reviews across the board, and in a genre that I love, then I might possibly buy blind.

I'll take "once in a great while" for $200.

They rock. They double the pleasure if the album turns out to be good too. By the way how you define "blind purchases"? Stuff that you never listened, or stuff that you never even read any recommendations/comment on them?

bands I love, I don't even bother trying to listen to samples first.

I bought Boris - Feedbacker based solely on the raves of a few people here who's judgement isn't impaired [/notmarkjugs]

my judgement is far less impaired than the shit that 95% of this forum fellates on a daily basis ;)

How did you like that BTW? Its personally my favorite Boris, but it can be hard to swallow for alot of people.

depending on the definition of blind, so I'm going to go with the definition of "not heard the band at all, and at best scanty remarks if they're good or not"

a couple years ago I made quite a few good discoveries through blind purchases... Temnozor, Negura Bunget, Primordial, Dub Buk, Taake.

hmm Der Blutharsch was a blind purchase, Above The Ruins, Of The Wand & The Moon, Orplid...

yeah, sure, I do blind purchases.

I only do true impulse buying (blind purchases of new shit from favorite bands don't count) when a recommendation convinces me that there's a 90% chance of me loving the album in the brokeback way...and the promise has delivered only about half the time.
