FFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

How come nobody told me how bad ass these fuckers are? Seriously. What the fuck! You guys are a bunch of fuckers!

And fucking Mikael Akerfeldt sings for them? What the fuck? I'm jizzing my pants about this band so much I had to spend money I didn't have to snag the Fathomless Mastery!

:kickass::kickass::kickass::kickass::kickass:

I love the guitar tone on TFM. I've heard similar tones on other albums (Dismember's "Death Metal" and the new Hypocrisy come to mind) where its just really dry and in your face, with a shit-ton of mids. I think the tone is almost worthy of it's own name, like if djent is djent, then this could be like "djaunt" or something. I lub it!

this band is totally awesome, TFM at first sounded like a big fail to me, cause I liked the sound on their previous EP much better, but know I really like it, the bass tone is really really messy and kinda fucks up the low end A LOT but I think it's cool for the mix, and after listening to the latest Katatonia I gotta say Castillo is really making a name for himself, this dude is fucking great.

Nightmares Made Flesh, man. That's the stuff right there, buddy.

yeah tagtren surprised even himself when he outgrowled Akerfeldt himself on that album, plus the production by Bogren was just perfect. I like every album of this band, the first two (breeding death and Resurection through carnage) are really more of an old school hommage/mocking but still great, after that they got more unique and stopped being a joke band. Actually their first ever live show was at wacken some time after NMF when Akerfeldt rejoined the band, before that it was simply a having fun and recording shit side-project by the katatonia guys

Still can't even listen to RTC because of that guitar tone :( And are you sure Bogren did the production on NMF? I seem to remember hearing it was one of his assistants (and it's a good production, but IMO not quite up to the Jens man's status)

Bogren did the production and mixing on NMF, I'm positive, remember it clearly from the very thread you made about bogren, Mr. Jens himself said it. His assistant (The increasingly awesome David Castillo) did the latest one, fathomless mastery.

I get your point on RTC, I love that album anyways, even though the guitar tone is purposely "buzzing" and Dan Swano is simply not a good drummer

Actually yeah, now that I'm listening to NMF, I can totally hear it's a Jens mix - I guess it was just the guitars that threw me off! (as good as they are considering the prominent role the HM2 must've played, that solid-state grit still makes me :yuk: or at least :erk:, regardless of how definitive for the style it may be)

I youtube'd some RTC songs to check out the tone, and I must say I love it! It's nothing I would aim for personally, but it definitelly has a nice charm to it!

You can take or leave their guitar tones but they are very much a conscious decision and not an engineering failure.

Oh of course, I didn't mean to imply anything to the contrary! I know that sound is what defined the style, and it by no means impedes my enjoyment of the music (well, on NMF, anyway :loco: And I really dig TFM's tone)

The RTC guitar tone is a cool idea, but it screws up the music imo. It's just a matter of taste though.

U r late to the party ...but always welcome :p

TFM is one of my favs...props to Castillo for sure

NMF has been on my ipod since it's release. Man, the guitar tone is SO aggressive (in fact it made me buy a HM-2 :lol:), and the low end of the overall mix is gorgeous (listen to it with subs, priceless).
