BMTH - There Is a Hell - FULL ALBUM on myspace

the songs 9 through till 12 are the better parts of the new album, everything else is a bit -shrug-

This is and will always be a band that I like a bit but not too much. Why? Oli Sykes' screaming sounds fucking dreadful. It sounds like screaming with no actual technique whatsoever, and it's just not normal for the human nature to stand listening to it for a whole album.

I really dig his high-pitched screams and lows though, I would love to pull that off myself. I also know a lot of bands that have vocalists screaming mid-pitch and they sound pretty good, but Sykes just doesn't.

This is the kind of band I'd want to see live, it's pretty intense. Even though Oli Sykes' screams sound even worse live.

I haven't listened to the new album too much, but I've listened a few tracks and haven't been able to make up my mind. There are some cool new ideas and there are some new lame ideas. I didn't like "It Never Ends" too much.

Same. I hate his vocals

Apart from the terrible midrange whining noise coming from Oli, this album/production is very listenable.

That effect on Crucify Me with the chick singer/s, is that autotune triggered by MIDI to get that quick change in notes? Would love to try that sometime. Any here ever done something like that? I haven't figured out how to sent autotune to MIDI yet, but i'm sure there is a tutorial somewhere.

It's actually this girl Lights who did that, she does some normal female vocals on Don't Go, as well.

You could do it with the region blocks in Autotune, but I think triggering via MIDI would be easier. You just create a MIDI track and send it to AT's input, and then activate the MIDI input on the plugin and you're good to go!

I only use MIDI, i think it sounds pretty good.

It was done by Skrillex aka Sonny Moore (the old From First to Last vocalist)

he does that alot in his songs/remixes

he also does some backing singing on the album

"Does anyone still listen to Trivium - Shogun?"

I'll stand up and say I do. I enjoyed Trivium before the kerrang and whatever else hype, actually got into them just before ascendancy. The hype never got me into the band,I just loved that I could read about them more. I enjoy their sound and thats fine with me.despite the hatred portrayed by the older dudes in my metal scene.

same with people who like BMTH. sure it really bothered me when they first came out and I thought they had no musical talent. I still think they don't but those who choose to listen to it go for it.

my problem is with them really making records only for the money and the singer being a twat. they were nothing like this before suicide season and really all they did was jump on what For The Fallen Dreams did with drop a# guitars and mix it up with the party vibe/sound that Australias "The Amity Affliction do"

seriously if both those bands got together and had a baby. bmth post suicide season would be it.

I listened to this album and I came to the conclusion that this album represents nothing I liked about BMTH's music before.

I don't mean to say that the music is bad, it's just way different to what I was expecting. I'm going to listen to it again later.

Dunno, maybe i've listened to the NIN discography a few thousand songs too many but I don't hear the "too many elements crammed into one album". YMMV.

I've done something similar. Bounce in place with autotune and all processing in tact and then create a sampler instrument with the file, so yeh just midi. There is a tool in logic which lets you just right click on a region and create a sample instrument but you could cut up each word of the region and assign it to a different key.

graphical is far superior to midi input, mostly because you can change the retune speed for each note and you can draw curves instead of just flat midi notes. not to mention that you can actually see where you are drawing the notes instead of guessing on the piano roll and having to keep moving notes around till they start exactly where they should (eg. right after the initial bend up of a word, so it does not sound so tuned)

i dig it, i like suicide season alot more, except his fucking highs, oli has the worst fucking highs in existence

Il just add to this thead by saying, gears of war 2 was good(the first one was shit), every trivium album is and always has been ridiculously gay(Shogun which had some great songs, the solo section in that song off the first album and entrance of the conflagration being exceptions here.

Going back to the main topic, I agree with them being a band for the add hot topic generation. I dont like there music in the slightest but they can play(no doubts aboot that). As for the mix, i do not like it. I feel theirs too much going on, its way way too in your face for my liking. I feel like im being physically assaulted by the music and im trying to push it back into my headphones. Everything sounds great but theirs too much of everything!!

After listening to the album around 4-5 times, I'm starting to get bored of it. It seems like such a shambles of an album. Theres the odd riff/hook I like but its actually tiring to listen to, it seems like an effort!

Also, Olis lyrics are so mind numbingly boring.
