hopefully this coming weekend. may have to go look for them all today and rent them early- so maybe thursday night and i'll stay up all night and go to work fri dressed like a collegiate zombie complete with hangover, tattered clothes, pizza/vomit stench, and menacing drool.

so, anyone want to come over and watch all 3 movies? i'm not sure my gf will be into it, so the more the scarier. i'm thinking about watching the original silent one in total silence, like without the music score- and maybe opening the windows for outside noises.

crappy VHS tape of F.W. Murnau 1922 version: check. (i should buy this on dvd)

DVD of Warner Herzog 1929 version: check.

DVD of Shadow of the Vampire borrowed from guy at work: pending arrival tomorrow.

also: Children of the Corn DVD.
Thinking of picking up b&w 1968 Night of the Living Dead but that may infringe upon future plan for Romero Film Festival event- once you get past the night of living dead, it seems to be somewhat downhill and must be combined with drinking. gotta leave something for later and 3-4 movies is way plenty.

Post-Nosferatu Triple Feature Report:
SPOILERS of really old movies

1) 1922 Murnau one = cool. Wish i could've found a better transfer of it (like the kino dvd), but it was okay. the only thing is that at the end, there's a part where Count Orlock (dracula) stands up and there's a mirror behind him and you can TOTALLY SEE HIM IN THE MIRROR. The acting was pretty awesome though.

2) Herzog's Nosferatu (1979): artsy.
The thing i loved about this one was the scenery- the landscapes are simply awesome. There's this one waterfall scene that is gorgeous. The acting is a bit rigid in some people, but the best two are totally Renfield (who has this laugh that cracks me up) and Count Dracula (not Orlock like in the 1922). He's totally creepy and most times when he's close to attacking, there's no music and you hear him breathing loud. neat. One weird thing: they switched the names of Jonathon's girlfriend/fiancee from Nina/Mina to Lucy and the friend (who dies instantly and doesn't get possessed like in the Francis Ford Coppolla version) is named Mina. So Jonathon was with Lucy and not with Nina/Mina. weird. Parts of this are just odd and with too much artistic attempt.

3) Shadow of the Vampire- have to finish watching this one. fell asleep.

We watched the Francis F Coppolla versin of Bram Stoker's Dracula on Halloween and it was very close to both the Nosferatu movies except for the whole Vlad the Impaler connection in the Coppolla version. and at the end of the Nosferatu films, the vampire dies because he was too into the girl and gets busted by the sunlight.
