Boogie Mark IV : Disciples of The Watch (Testament)

I'm listening on my laptop speakers, but it sounds really good. Could you tell us more details about the recording?

Thanks bud,

just a rough idea of the chain,

-> RG7620 w Lundgren, Mesa , Carvin Legacy 4 x 12, MD421 & 57, RNP, MOTU,

Superior 2 Drums and a Stingray 5 thru a Sansamp RPM.

I had a rough time working on amp miking and getting it to sound decent. Not too shabby I hope?

I liked the sound of the guitars! The snare sounds a bit gated maybe?

Thanks Tom! Thought it was a lil' too warm but I'm sure that's coming from the Carvin legacy cab thats predominant.

Its a Nir Z snare from Superior 2 and I didn't quite like too much resonance from the ringing. Would you have preferred it to be less gated?

The guitar sounds pretty wicked but the drums are really cheap sounding. Fix the drums with Superior Drums and I'd say you got one hell of a mix!

Fixed ;) Tone sounds pretty damn good man, though quite muffled - moving the mic a bit closer to the dustcap and/or adding in some more cut (or decreasing the mids a bit) might help, but you're well along the way!

I kinda feel that way too, it being muffled. Needs a bit more defination.

By the way, you're not much of a help here mentioning Slate samples. :)

Cheers,

Dude...your posting at the school right now.

if there's one thing I feel about audio engineering in forums is that nobody can actually show u how everything actually works together. Presets and settings can only do so much. It is developing an intuition and a rite of passage that one has to discover for themselves.

Hmm, actually I was just half kidding around. Once you've been around here for longer you will see that there is much more going on than presets and settings.

Cheers.

I think its the kick thats the brunt of the drums being so ear fatiguing, for one its too loud as the "slappyness" of it gets kinda annoying, turn it down or perhaps re-eq the kick. Brighten up the guitars a touch, but overall the guitar tone is really good, I like its crunch.

Very nice indeed and what a classic song! :kickass:
