Lizard, sounds like a great read. I'll keep it in mind. Eh, is it pre-Timothy Leary?
actually simultaneous...The Pranksters left SF in a dayglow painted bus

and drove across the country trying to freak out the rest of the nation, and hooked up with Leary's people in NY, but Leary's group was to staid, so it was OFF back to the west coast!

so is the other "books" thread not good enough for ya, huh!??!
.
if there was A SEARCH FEATURE I wouldn't have needed to create another thread.

RIP LIZARD

I've been reading a fuckload of fantasy lately. Read mistborn, LOTR trilogy, five pratchet novels, and started The first law.

Anyone else?

How is demons? I've read most of dostoevsky, but never read demons.

Secondly, after reading thousands of peer reviewed articles, I really hate non fiction books. There is rarely fact checking and if there is the peer review, it is so lame.

I dunno. It's also one of the few Dostoevsky's that I have yet to read. He's probably my favorite author and I've been sitting on this one book for YEARS. Just haven't picked it up yet.

Regarding nonfiction, aside from philosophy, I'm more of a "soft science" type of guy rather than your "hard science" stuff.

Also a fan of poetry.

I'm having a difficult time getting motivated to pick up reading intensively again. I read so much for my graduate program (literally a few hundred books - both required and on my own) that I sort of burned out in the Spring after years of constant engagement. I'm sure I'll get there because I've been reading history and loving it my entire life, but I'm not in that place at the moment.

Life and Fate by Vasily Grossman

a huge saga about the events at Stalingrad during WW2, loosely intermingling the journeys and travails of several characters with historical commentary. Gripping stuff, though I've been on it for the better part of the year and I'm also apalled at my laughable reading pace these days.

no, because some people out there still have got taste

I mostly read nonfiction but have a few fiction novels lying in the wait.
Of Human Bondage - Maugham
In The Shadow Of Young Girls In Flower - Proust

Nice!
Bondage is still for me to check out, waiting for it's turn.
I started "In The Shadow Of Young Girls In Flower" but then thought to wait for a special mood to continue. It's so long and great. Been to the hotel fully dedicated to Proust last winter - it's really something. They have installations with his writings that you need to use magnifying glass to read in their lobby, his sculptures and letters he wrote, and each room in the hotel is named after a character of his books and has some specific visuals dedicated to them.

I have the 1st Wheel of Time sitting next to my bed. Ive read the prologue and thats it. I cant get motivated to read it

I know whatcha mean. But everyone tells me its worth it.

Or we can wait for the series ala Game of Thrones

I'm reading The Wheel of Time right now, just finished book three. It's pretty amazing, and I've been told doesn't even really get Good until book four and beyond.

I read the prologue to the first book about 3 times over a 20 year span before I found the drive to continue. Maybe that's the tale's gatekeeper to keep out unbelievers?
