My thoughts:

PSA should work very well, seperate 2 tracks(one for the lows(DI) and one for the grind(PSA), buss them together and multiband the shit out of 400-600hz area...

Indeed. That clangy/ grindy sound is very PSA! I hope to grab one just for those sorts of tones

Couldn't live without it. It ROCKS sooo massive for bass grind!

I used this method in one of my latest mixes and got a pretty similar bass tone you're referring to.
I know there aren't any major parts to hear it on it's own, but it fits in perfect with the guitars I think. I ended up using Lextac for the bass grit though.
