But then you wouldn't know that I'm a n00b.
I never heard what happened this year, after the huge Burning Man pyre.....burnt up prematurely. Oooops!
Great Burning Man vids....someday I'd love to go, but it always conflicts with Dragon*Con.
Did you watch the video of it burning early?! I'm surprised it's never happened before, actually!
I've definately wante to go to Burning Man too, but just never seem to find a group big enough to make it worth my while.... well, anyone actually! I think I'll go by myself one year and join the Lamplighter camp and go around lighting all the street lights each night. That would be so cool and the perfect excuse to see everything (well, almost! Some things I don't want to see! ever! But racing cupcakes would be epic!)
Yeah, especially since the fest has been attracting more and more of a 'troublemaker' crowd in recent years. (The same, sadly, may be true for Dragon*Con.)
It's on the same site as the cupcakes: http://www.current.tv/pods/tvfreeburningman/PD07048I didn't know there was video of the premature ejac-- err, immolation. I'll have to go look for it. Some were yelling "let it burn, let him burn!" and others were yelling "Save the Man! Save the Man!"
Ahhhh, Burning Man. There's nothing else like it.
I know, I know I'd like to join an established camp with an interactive music theme. There have been some very interesting ones in the past, as I've seen on the website. How many times have you been to Burning Man? Volunteering for the newspaper would be very cool! With the advent of TV Free Burning Man, I'd be very tempted to join their production crew!Pellaz said:The Lamplighters are a good option. I'd go and volunteer for the onsite newspaper, but I'll bet they get a lot of that. It is NOT a cheap event to attend, either....even beyond your airfare and ground transportation, you also have to bring food for close to a week, and water, and be prepared to camp on the playa in the high desert for 4-7 days.
Agreed! Maybe the PP family can join forces and bring a kickin Metal camp to the Playa! What can we have people interact with and what should we burn? We have enough talented and educated adults here, I think we could come up with something truly amazing! Even if only on the forum.. I think these guys have the right idea for shelter! (I smell a need for a new thread!)Pellaz said:Heck, I'll incorporate any videos or pics taken at Burning Man as fodder for this thread by inference. Remember, "there are no observers, just participants!"
Oddly enough I know someone who goes to burning man every year. He lives in Arizona, though. He's does fire poi (not a video of him, he's not that good).

For sure! Actually I think Current TV were the only ones allowed in to produce anything, so it may actually be a special team they put together instead of a volunteer group of attendees. Thanks, great video. I must say, for a buncha hippies they got some mad TV production skillz.
I've never attended (Dragon*Con is always on Labor Day Weekend, too), but I've got quite a few friends who have attended in the past, and I've learned a lot about it over the years.
Scarily enough, Dragon*Con was larger than Burning Man this year....probably for the first time.
Whoa, seriously? Just how many people come out to Dragon*Con?? I mean, I know it's big, but THAT big? I thought Burning Man's numbers are so big it actually becomes a recognized city! Albeit, Brigadoon style. ((knows Pellaz will get it.. wonders if anyone else will!))
I've decided, if I ever go to Burning Man, I'm making a Mutant Vehicle/Art Car. And it will be a giant ladybug! Actually, the group of cupcakes (along with the skull car) inspired a thought.... having a group of people making a bunch of low- to mid- capacity art cars shaped like various giant insects! A ladybug, fly, bee, spider with big legs (that would look bad ass on the Playa!), butterfly with huge colorful wings, grasshopper, dragonfly, beetle, and even a snail! Can you imagine giant bugs crawling all around the desert! What could we call our bug car camp? hmm...
I'm really surprised by that! Then again maybe I shouldn't be. Cornerstone Fest in Bushnell, IL pulls those same numbers, too.Yep, seriously..... Burning Man did around 40K, I think I read. D*C probably did comfortably above that. Including one-day passes, it could have approached 50k.
Reminds me of a clip I saw on Animal Planet years ago that was so cute it made my eyes water!

"Everything I need to know I've learned from Iron Maiden"

That's damn cool! What does that last part mean though? "So cute it made my eyes water"? Cute makes your eyes water?
As in "cry"... perhaps I should have said, "so cute it makes my eyes tear up" Or maybe it's because a penguin wearing a penguin backpack is so cute it hurts!
