Hi all,

I know they employ a female who can grunt/scream/growl with the best of them, but I'm interested in knowing what their music is really like.

Can it really be described as vintage Maiden on steroids? Full of melody and guitar harmonies?

Can anyone recommend a good CD to start with?

'Wages of Sin'

Brilliant album

They also have 3 albums with their old vocalist, who was a guy. In my opinion, those albums are superior to the Angela-fronted stuff (although 'Wages of Sin' is a damn good album), but, again, just my opinion.

Agree with BZ, th albums with Liiva are far more superior, not that the guy sings he's also a grunter but a better one IMO.

The guitar work is awsome, as an instrumental band they really deliver big time.

Put it this way...I am not a death metal fan. But I loves me some Arch Enemy. ANTHEMS OF REBELLION is the disc that I think is closest to Maiden on steroids, as you put it. I would say they're more like KILL EM ALL fattened up on steroids with vocals that grate on my last nerve but solos and riffs that make it worth enduring the vocals for 45 minutes. GREAT GREAT GREAT guitar riffs and solos!!! Not just playing 1000mph for the sake of "noise" but real honest to pete kick you in the nuts and make your bootie shake riffs from the depths of hell. If you trust your Uncle Ted at all you'll give ANTHEMS a spin before writing them off as mallcore!
