Can PP5 be held in Chicago?

OK, I'm from Chicago, and I've attended PPIII and IV. Let me tell you, a big part of the fun is the trip down there. I can't think of a venue in Chicago that's laid out the same way as ELL. An all-standing show would be pretty miserable on the crowd, and a venue with sufficient area to support the merch stands outside of the concert room would be a requirement. That, combined with the presence of the two hotels within walking distance makes ELL the perfect choice for the venue.

Plus, if I'm not mistaken, Glenn is from Atlanta, which makes things a whole hell of a lot easier on him. Considering the first one was at JJ Kelly's, I've gotta say I MUCH prefer the idea of holding it in Atlanta.

My advice to you? Get together with a few buddies, and road-trip down to the show. It's an absolute blast.

I don't mind Atlanta or Earthlink a bit. It's just the early September date that wreaks a bit of havoc with my schedule...

Personally for me and my brother it would be better to have it in mid-August before he has to start back his University schedule. The only problem with that is how hot it is in Atlanta in mid-August.

I think Sept is fine, August would suck having to walk everywhere in that heat. (I'm used to it living in Houston, but that doesn't mean I like it).

If anything, I would like late Sept or early Oct just because the weather would be best then, but early Sept is fine too.

You college kids need to stop whining. It's not going to kill you to miss one friday of classes, you probably don't even go to class on friday anyway.

Besides, didn't that poll last month determine that the average age of PP attendees is around 30? :p

Earthlink is the perfect venue for ProgPower!!! And the area is perfect as well, since it is not a heavy traffic area of Atlanta and the hotels are right next to the venue. It can't get any better than that!

Earthlink Live rules. I hope the show always stays there.

The only thing I'd like to see is having it on a consistant weekend, like Nearfest does. That way you could plan your schedule around it every year. I personally liked having it in early September, and hope it's around that time next year.

Early/mid August would be perfect, I wouldn't have to miss any school time, and could stay a few extra days before/after! The only problem I'd see in doing this would be booking the bands. Many bands do summer tours and this may conflict and cause headaches for Glenn.. =/.

Early August in Atlanta anyone?

Airfare is much cheaper and I won't have to miss any of law school ;)

Not many Atlantans like the weather in early August, I highly doubt any northerners would like it much either. Mid-late august has the same problem, granted, we'd all be inside, but walking around Atlanta would probably be cut short.

I really enjoy getting around in Atlanta - it's so easy. From the airport, I just jump on the train and it stop on the block of my hotel which just a few minutes walk to the venue. No car needed.

The area of town is very nice and not too scary. I feel pretty safe walking around at night. I can't say that about Chicago at anytime of day. I haven't been at a venue in Chicago that I've been impressed with as much as ELL.

If PPIV would someday outgrow ELL, I'd still hope that Glenn would keep the festival in a nice part of Atlanta.

I do argee that part of the whole PPIV experience is making the trip, especially with friends.

As far as the weather goes, it's actually been hotter in Wisconsin than Atlanta during the PPIII and PPIV. It rained all of PPIII and it was incredibly mild and very comfortable for PPIV.

No complaints here about Earthlink! It's a great location for international travelers too.

College kids - I was a student during PPIII and all I missed was Wednesday, Thursday, & Friday, but that's only because we wanted to take our time driving AND spend a day just looking around the town - and we came from Michigan (14-15 hours). So you don't need a ton of time off from school. One, maybe two days. It's definately worth it - you can make up a day's worth of work if you get the assignements in advance and do them while someone else is driving. The roadtrip is a blast, though I prefer flying if I can afford it.
