I love this so hard.
I am totally living proof that this is true. It shames me to admit it, but Dragonforce was my first metal show and my gateway drug into Euro metal. When we got tickets to see them, I was just getting into the scene and suddenly bought every single Blind Guardian, Hammerfall, Sonata Arctica and Edguy CD I could find at our local FYE (not a lot..) and AFTER the show, I was so addicted that I bought everything else I could find online. Their stage performance, plus the fun audience totally inspired me. Would it have been much better for me to have been inspired by something less goofbally than Dragonforce? Absolutely.. but not all of us are so lucky.

That's just the thing though, if there is entertainment value to be had beyond the music, then you can get people to listen to it or watch the video as the case may be for that. Someone who likes video games will watch a Dragonforce video even if they don't like metal. And then maybe they end up liking metal.

What is more shameful are metalheads who did get into metal from more mainstream bands but act like they have been around since 83.......

I'd like to think so, too! I just wish I could have been more involved at a younger age. I missed out on so much that I would have loved.

Only thing worse than that... metalheads who were *actually* there in the 80s and think they are better than the rest of the younger ones because "that was the real thing."
