Here's a 3-song demo from a pretty unknown hardcore band called Carved From violence. The demo may be short, and the band may be pretty unknown, but the demo is very impressive, and the band features better skill and songwriting than you'd expect to hear from the big name groups. It's just awesome.

The demo is stuffed with dual guitar harmonies, fast solos, and unique rhythm progressions. The production is very clear on this demo, which is a surprise! Even the bass can be heard with surprising clarity and the bassist actually plays the bass instead of just following along the songs like a tool. It almost sounds as if it had been improvised! The hardcore breakdown shows it's ugly little head near the end of the first song, but there is also a nice arpeggiated guitar lead over it which really makes it a lot better. The chorus on the "Coin Operated, Remote Controlled" is pretty great too taking a slightly more melodic and less thrashy approach than the verse and featuring some nice clean vocals.

It's hard to pinpoint the influences in Carved From Violence's music. Sure, there are probably the general hardcore influences and such, but the guitar leads and solos are definitely not common to this genre. The second song, "Buzzards", doesn't even sound like hardcore and has more of a melodic death vibe. If it had low growls and maybe more downtuned guitars, it could have passed as a good death tune... The arrangements in the song are outstanding, and the guitar leads during the verse are perfect.

The vocalist does your basic shouty hardcore voice, and a lot less often, some normal clean vocals. "Sitting Through The Dreamscape" is a pretty rockin' song with a lot of good thrashing. It's less melodic than the first two, of course, but it is still a pretty great song but after hearing the first two you will almost crave those guitar solos, which there are much less of in the third song until near the end when it really gets impressive! It's totally a rock 'n' roll style ending. Carved From Violence is a band to keep your eye on, as if they continue on this path, they are destined for greatness.

8/10
