February 23, 2005 ㅡ Lee Eun-ju, star of the film "Taegukgi," hanged to death in her apartment yesterday. Police said she committed suicide.
The 25-year-old actress was found by her brother around 1 p.m. in the dressing room of her apartment in Bundang, Gyeonggi province. Ms. Lee hung herself with a necktie, police said.
Beside Ms. Lee's bed was a note saying, "Mom, I'm sorry and I love you," written in blood, according to police.
Her brother, Lee Gwang-seop, said that he was with his sister until about 6 a.m. yesterday morning because she could not sleep.
Mr. Lee said he went to her apartment around 1 p.m. and found his sister's body.
Police said Ms. Lee apparently tried to first kill herself by cutting her wrist with a knife. Police said it appeared she then strangled herself with a necktie.
Ms. Lee had allegedly been suffering from insomnia and depression since her latest film, "Scarlet Letter." The film closed the acclaimed Pusan International Film Festival last year.
Debuting in 1998, Ms. Lee made herself to be a conspicuous figure with the 2000 film "Oh! Soo-jung," cementing her reputation as a popular actress.
She enjoyed a successful career with the hit TV drama "Bulsae" (Fire Bird) last year, followed by "Taegukgi." She graduated from Danguk University last Thursday.
