Another cool review posted by Cack Blabbath webzine!
"They Say :- Chain Reaction was formed in the end of 2002 as a band of friends playing together for fun. Two years later, at the moment when the bands style was maturing, it was joined by Barton who took over the lead singers position. In 2006 CRs new tracks were recorded as the id Promo and met with great reception.
The band kept on working hard and in the end of 2007 recorded their first LP album entilted Vicious Circle. They spent the next year playing loads of gigs and, finally, signed their first record deal with a new Italian label, Kolony Records. Vicious Circle was out in stores around Europe in March, 2009 and gained great reviews, both in press and on the internet. This only strengthened the bands belief that what they have created was good and gave them a good vibe, needed at that time, as they were finishing the writing of their second album.
Cutthroat Melodies, Chain Reactions second LP was recorded in the last months of 2009 and is to be released in May 2010, once again by Kolony Records.
We Say :- Cutthroat Melodies is, as youve just read, the second album from Polish metal band Chain Reaction. It came out a few months ago but as Ive just heard it I thought I would share my thoughts with you
Especially as its a bit good.
One of my ambitions since I started this site was to use the phrase chunky riffs. Its up there with slab of rock, balls out and suchlike when it comes to phrases that you have to use in at least one review, so here we go
Chain Reaction play proper thrashy heavy metal with thudding beats and massive chunky riffs (yay, finally). Mostly, its reminiscent of Pantera and their successors. The tracks chug along over a rumbling bottom end that is simply text book heavy. The band also benefit from a decent vocalist in the form of Barton who has an array of styles at his disposal, sometimes there are similarities to Max Cavalera, others its Phil Anselmo but its always distinctive and tuneful enough not to sound like a clone of either.
Clearly this is no bad thing.
There are some great heavy metal moments here, album opener Twinge is a chunky riff-fest (OK, Ill stop that now) and God Lives Too Long is a song Machine Head wish theyd written.
This is an album that has an immediate appeal. Although its mostly up tempo metal they do slip in the occasional oddball just to show you that they have a little bit more about them. There is one of the nicest acoustic guitar widdle-fests I have heard recently at the end of Insomnia Revised, its a total change of style that shows a softer side.
The other unexpected track on here is When Road & Booze Collide. Never mind Pantera, this is very much Volbeat-esque rockabilly flavoured rockn'roll and it is very well done. Bet its a blast when they do it live.
This is a release that its difficult to find fault with. Its proper metal played properly.
What more could you ask for ?
Shh, dont tell anyone but I dont much like Machine Head. I would if they sounded like this." [admin]
