cheap mic preamp

I'm new to recording, i don't own a recoder yet but i'm getting a Fostex MR8HD. I was wondering what kind of mike preamp is should get. I want one that can do
vocals, guitars, drums, etc. Nothing special, just one that sounds good for about $200-$400 dollars.

The DMP3 is VERY good for the money. You cant get it to produce noise even with insane gain settings and a crt-screen beside it. The instrument in works great and the Hi/Lo Gain Switches work very nice in conjunction with the VU meters.

Old School Audio. Just a tad over $400 and it's an API clone. You'll need to make a power supply though. They go for less than $400 USD on Ebay.

I also have an RNP and I'm very happy with it.
You could probably find a used one in that price range.
