So, after having spent 2 days with protools, I like how it flows. Now I'm curious, moving to ProTools HD cost a lot, and there are several options.
I'm looking for atleast 16 tracks to start of with. Give me your thoughts!

does your current a/d have adat out? if so
used 003+mptk off ebay+ your current converter=win.
do it now.

I am in the same situation, need to move on protools but an HD1 rig is my minimum need (I need 24 I/O).

And if like me you need to switch from pc world to mac at same time, it would be a double PITA:lol:

So the cheaper way to go is what follow:
-used 2008/2009 8 core mac pro (2k)
-used HD core (with this you save lot of money first but you need a magma chassis later for go to an HD3 or 4 for exemple... So temporary money saving:erk:) or used accel core (2k max)
-used digi 96 or 192 (1k for 96 or 2k for 192 max)

So you get an HD1 rig for 6k max (not too bad imvho)

Or go with LE:lol:

HD1 is kinda a stupid investment. Just about any good quad core will have more processing power, will cost you way less in plug-ins, and with the right interfaces you can get just as low of latency. The only real way to get into HD is if you can spring for an hd2 system (at least). Trust me, work on a HD 1 and try to run a full 30-40 track mix with normal plug-in instances, its not going to be fun. There is not enough processing power.

HD is a great system, ( I personally dislike working in PT but...) its just not practical to get an HD1 system to try to make money off of. I'd wait until you can get into HD2 or see what comes out of avid in the near future. Ya never know...

I understand but my workflow becomes more hybrid... And an HD2 is overkill for me right now.
