Besides rehearsing like hell, what can my band do/suggest to make our recording sound its best? Tricks for double tracking? Stuff to bring? Mic'ing suggestions? Anything guys, give it up!

Spend as much time as you need finding the right engineer and studio. The guy can have all the equipment in the world and if he's never heard your style of music before (let alone recorded it) you may as well put your money in a pile and burn it. If you're recording it yourself and aren't (be honest) making your living as an engineer then have other people you trust give honest opinions as you work through it. A week or 2 into recording it is very easy to lose your bearings, outsiders can help ground you.
If you're just looking for 'how do I get _____ to sound good?' tips then you should read as many threads in this forum as you can.
