Check out this rockin riff that i made \m/

I'm recording a 3 or 4 song AOR/melodic hard rock CD for an assignment at uni at the moment in the new recording studio. It's gonna rock!

One song we've finished writing and recorded a rough PC demo of (I made the drums, bass n keys on PC and recorded my guitars through line in). No vocals on it, I just recorded it so I could show the other dude the song and he loved it so we'll definitely record it for the CD. It's called "Lost Without Your Love" and sounds extremely AOR! It's kinda like um... Toto/Foreigner/Journey type AOR but with more hard rockish guitars, so I spose kinda heading towards TNT and that AOR-era Malmsteen, the vibe kinda reminds me a bit of 5150-era Van Halen too (Why Can't This Be Love especially).

When we record the demo, I'm doing all guitars and some keys, and the guy I'm producing the CD with is doing bass and some keys, we're using a drum machine to skip the hassle of trying to record the right drum sound in the studio (it's not that bad, Judas Priest did it too with Ram It Down!), and Al from Teargas is doing the lead vocals :)

If anyone is interested in hearing the songs after they're recorded I'll post up mp3s or something. From the material we've come up with so far, I can say that even though its very stereotypical sounding AOR, nothing new or anything, it's extremely catchy and melodic!

AOR - Album-Oriented Rock (or Album-Oriented Radio). This term has its origins in the 1970s, when radio stations had the flexibility to play (and often did) any cut from an album, not just the released singles. When someone uses the term "AOR", think bands like Styx, Boston, Journey, Foreigner, and Toto. The term Arena rock has also been used to describe many of these bands.

That was pasted from Heavy Harmonies hahaha. But yeah, it's stuff like Toto, Journey and Foreigner... through to lighter stuff like early Michael Bolton and Whispering Jack-era John Farnham, and also the more melodic and keyboardy hard rock stuff like Harem Scarem, Europe, Danger Danger and even some Van Halen and '80s Malmsteen type stuff.

I always though it was Adult Oriented Rock?

Michael Bolton, theres a blast from the past. How can we be lovers if we cant be friends indeed.

I always thought it was American Oriented Rock. I doubt it's Album-Oriented Rock, but I may be wrong. Adult is a possibility.

Journey!!
