Check the Date June 6th 2006=666

Morticia NL.

Orphaned sister
I came across this site on the net. Then I started thinking this guy has a point: :headbang:

National Day of Slayer 6.6.06 isn't a date that comes around very often (once per century, to be exact), and while plenty of stupid horror movies and terrible albums will be released for the hype value of the day that bears "the number of the beast", we here at NDoS decided that this would be a perfect day for Hessians across the country to come together and engage in something upon which we can all agree - listening to Slayer!

I can appreciate a little tongue-in-cheeck- joking!

6-6-06 is my friend's birthday...that may not mean anything bad, but it surely can't mean anything good...

1) I dislike Slayer very much, save for a few songs
2) Slayer's fanbase are made up of morons
3) I am a Christian, so "Bible-bashing" is out of the question
4) 6606 is NOT the number of the Beast, unfortunately
5) Did I mention that Slayer, for the most part, blows?

I agree in part.

Yeah, this Bible bashing agenda backs up your claim number 2.

I wonder what people did in the year 666 AD?...on June 6th? Freak out?--Likely not. Seriously, the 6606 thing is way overdone.

I dislike their music, but that doesn't mean they aren't talented. They pioneered much of the melodic-chromatic metal style that we have today. Basically, I didn't like musically or lyrically what they aimed to achieve, but they did indeed achieve it, so my hat goes off to them at least in that regard. I can't even count the number of power and progressive metal bands I've listened to that fall short of par for being catchy.

And I must admit, they put on a hell of a show at Ozzfest in 2004.

I've long been a fan of what I deem "theological horror" flicks like The Exorcist and The Prophecy, and I am writing an article about that genre for the magazine Dark Realms (partially in preparation for The Omen remake). From what I have researched so far, the idea of looking for an oncoming apocalypse by interpreting current events only became popular in the 19th and 20th centuries. The idea is a little older than that, but only by a couple of centuries. My personal belief is that John's visions on Patmos reflected the state of the 1st Century church while suffering under the might of Rome.*

Also, the number of the beast was likely 616 rather than 666, making 666 a number that has relevance only as a contemporary symbol of over-the-top eeeeevillllle...and since Slayer has always seemed to be more of a horror band than a legitimate occult-based band, let 'em have the number (and, like Morticia NL, said, this 6/6/06 thing is just tongue-in-cheek anyway).

And while I personally do not like Slayer, I have nothing against them, either. One of my good buddies is the biggest Slayer fan I have ever met (he even looks a bit like Tom Araya). Just not my thing, but lots of bands aren't. I agree with Sean that there are morons in every fan base.

What I do find funny is that in Revelation, the number of the beast - whatever it was - was a mark of ultimate conformity...something that metalheads rail against ;)

I guess that was my essay/advertisement for my upcoming article. Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

*there's you an in-joke, Pellaz and Dargormudshark.

OK- lighten up please. Don't take it too seriously. My comment about bible bashing is just taking the Stryper thing a little further. Don't you know they were known for throwing bibles into the audience?
If someone makes a joke, don't assume the worst right away. I mean- I'm a blonde but when someone makes a joke about blond haired women, I don't assume it's about me right away.

Now- shake hands and just appreciate the fun of it all.

every one has they're own opinion, but i love slayer for they're music, not b/c they "worship the devil" and i think that is just an act because they seem like really nice guys, not ppl that hate jesus etc. etc

I've heard this theory but the explanation has been pretty vague. Same with the metaphorical Revelation theory too. It seems to be something that people like to accept without really saying why. As for 616, I don't get it. To my knowledge, 6 is the number of the world (the devil is the god of the world) and 3 is a number of perfection. 3 6's means world's perfection. 616....simply isn't anything special.

Unless there is some coded meaning that meant something to the early Christians but has lost its meaning since then. If it was, as some people believe, a metaphorical reference to Nero, then it wouldn't have to be some uber-creepy number. The 616 business seems to have been confirmed by an ancient papyrus document that was discovered last year.

Ultimately, whatever one chooses to believe, Revelation is an interesting puzzle, but I encourage fellow Christians not to miss the forest because of all the trees. Helping people and making the world a better place today is a lot better than watching for signs and cowering in fear of some ultimate "antichrist" who'll take over the world or some such thing. It's best to beware of the antichrists that we already know are in the world today. Business owners who will ruin someone's life for the love of money. That guy who won't say "thank you" when you open the door out of politeness ;) Preachers who hide behind masks of piety while encouraging hatred and intolerance. The drug abuser who would gladly beat an elderly person for money to support their habit. Basically, people who are a lot more frightening than some dictatorial antichrist...because we aleady know that those people exist.

And while the lyrics are about Nostradamus, I'll leave you with the following from some of our Grand Old Men, Iron Maiden.

In 13 the Beast is Rising,
The Frenchman did surmise,
Through earthquakes and starvation,
The Warlord will arise,
Terror, Death, Destruction,
Pour from the Eastern sands,
But the truth of all predictions,
Is always in your hands.
