Hello
Ever since first listening to Symphony X's Iconoclast, my mind has flirted with the idea of the more literal meanings of the concept album being written as a story. The human/machine war, while hardly a new concept has come alive to me, whenever I listened to the record, with each song portraying a different aspect of the war. I realize the lyrics are more symbolic than anything, but as a writer I just couldn't pass up the inspiration from one of the greatest bands IMO.
I felt strongest about the lyrics for Children of a Faceless God, which, in my mind, were spoken by, at least in the verses, an insane person:
Screaming at the walls around me - Broken and alone
Fighting with my inner demons is all I've ever known
And an idea was born in my mind. What if the robotic scourge relied on converting mental patients into human/machine hybrids, due to their lack of any actual mental faculties, facilitating their conversion into aforementioned hybrids (the hybrid concept being alluded to throughout the album : In his image of darkness... I'm reborn
etc...)
And so I have decided to a write a short literary account on each song each showcasing both humans and robots.
I would really like to know what my fellow Symphony X fans think about this, so here's a link to my blog and the first story about Children : http://ahmedk215.blog.com/2012/08/02/children-of-a-faceless-god/
Please leave a comment with your opinion, with criticism, no matter how honest, being wildly appreciated
