I've told you before, if you ever have to ask "do I need this effect?" then the answer is no. :loco:

A compressor, in essence, levels out your signal. The quiet gets louder and the loud gets quieter. This is an extremely basic description of what a compressor does, for further reading:

There are many supAr dupAr expensive compressors out there, but I just need something to even out my dynamics at times.

Boss = poop

Well, not poop really, but I don't much care for their shit anymore.

Cheers for the correction of my stupidity. :dopey:

Sounds like I don't need it. I know what you said now, but if I don't know what possibilities are out there I can never really guage what I "need." Also, I'm very open to experimenting with effects and would never rule one out without seeing what the fucker can do.

This compressor stuff sounds kind of strange. I can see the advantages, I guess, and may want one some time in the future, but eh... I don't even record yet. Next step: get something to start recording shitz on and see what I f'in sound like!

yeah but when it all comes down the fucking line you're talking about compressing a god damn bass guitar here. compression is not exactly super difficult business, i really really really really really really really really doubt anyone will notice the difference between pretty much any half decent compressor in a live setting

but hey i guess you have more money than you know what to do with nowadays... why not get a universal audio 1176 while you're at it :loco:
Oh yeah, 75% of what I spend my cash on the audience will never notice, but that's not who I do it for anyhow. :loco:

This is cheaper and has a funny name!

Yeah but where else am I going to put my glorified power strip and unnecessarily huge tuner? :dopey:

Yea my guitarist has this rediculous rack Korg tuner, it can get you tuned, has a metronome, lights up in like 300 different colors, has pitch tones, makes you breakfast, does your laundary, all this rediculous stuff he never uses.

I have a rack tuner (it's very quick and can be read from far away, but has like 90 features I'll never use), one o' them glorified power strips, some empty shelf, my amp, and like 5 pedals now. Not too big a deal, although not really minimalist. I'm pretty much done though, the only thing I want to get is maybe a reverb/delay unit, and of course more basses. edit: well someday I'd like a synth system of some sort like a Moog Bass MuRF but who knows.

When I get a full tube amp, it'll be straight and to the point: 120lb. head and a 400lb. 8x10 cab, my P-bass, and a bad back. :rock:
