since I'm a cheap bastard, is it possible to use this unit reversed?
http://www.thomann.de/gb/millenium_die_dibox_passiv.htm

if not, do you think it could be easily reversed with soldering some parts, any clue about a tutorial for that?

if all fails would that be a good re-amp box?
http://www.radialeng.com/re-prormp.htm

can I use the di-box for recording two signal dry/wet? what exactly is meant by input/output/low.z output? input is for high.z I assume, low.z output is also easy, but is the other output a high.z or low.z?

Radial ProRMP is good reamp box. No any problem and built like tank.
As for DI-box...
Yes you can use di-box to record dry/wet - plug your guitar into input, plug output to your amp and low z output to your interface/audiocard.
But (for mentioned di-box) there is no specifications on input impedance - so, I guess, impedance not so high (maybe 250kOhm, who knows).
This is not so great for passive pickups. Passive box can be used reverse, but you will need to reduce input signal alot.
In your case I suggest to try recording DI-signal trhrough your e530 on bypass (it has true bypass and ability to adjust level as needed).
I`m using my e430 in such way (and using it as splitter) and get results superior to art tube mp as di-box.
Plug guitar into e530, plug mono out (effect send) to amp and plug one of line outs to interface.
Switch to bypass mode and adjust pot on the back of unit to get appropriate level.
But adjust carefully - I suggest to set pot at minimum and turn until you get around -3db at peaks (maybe slightly more).
(e430 (Tube Toner) and e530 have similar capabilities).

I also have active pickups now - EMG 85 with EMG SPC on Charvel Model 6. Powerfull combination even with SPC on minimum.
Disliked EMG 85 alone on 9V and even more on 18V. So output is hot, but I did not getting clipping due to e430 - only internal EMG clipping.
Don`t know about reversed passive DI.

The way I see it with a Passive DI is that the only way to reverse the signal would be to lower the fader in your DAW, and we all know the huge debate going on as to whether that decreases the amount of bits in your signal, thus degrading it - just get a ProRMP :p
