Christian Metal

Yeah, the new Becoming the Archetype CD is "off the chain"(sorry about that I work nights at the mall).

But yeah I myself love christain metal, maybe it has something to do with being the son of a preacher,(I know that apple fell far away), but it is just something about having music you can play anywhere around anyone and not having to worry about the singer shouting curses or talking about killing anyone. And has anyone mentioned King's X yet?

There is a Finnish Christain band by the name of Random Eyes (I think?)that I have heard a couple of songs by but have not heard the whole album but what I heard sounds good. Has anyone said Soul Embraced (ex-members of living sacrifice) yet? And if you like radio rock then there is Blindside.

Glad to see you guys from HW weighing in on this topic! I know y'all are major CM fans! Christian metal rules!

out of fairness to my bandmates, I don't wish to link my entire band to this. I know for a fact me and Jon have major ties to this scene(it's where we became friends), but I don't speak for any of my band memebers but myself.I also was a part of a Sanctuary bible study(Sanctuary was a church formed by Pastor Bob Beeman, the dude inside many of the releases card, got to hang with him, cool dude!). But, the scene sufferd a good bit due to all sorts of stupid crap. Not the least of which were people forming Christian bands to try and "make it " quicker. The scene got whored out pretty band in the 90's, and a lot of people turned away from the scene(and the church)in whole.I still approach that scene with trepedation(I am still Christian though).

Okay folks, I appreciate the sentiment, but you don't have to explain your liking a christian band if your not a christian. I don't explain my liking Dimmu Borgir by explaining any of my beliefs. If it rocks, it rocks, if it sucks, it sucks.

BTW, I think the Helloween release Better Than Raw has some excellent Christian sentiment, in particular- Time, Hey Lord, A Game We Shouldn't Play, Laudate Dominum, Revelation

I think a lot of Christian themes are found in metal simply because the Bible makes for some pretty excellent writing material. Lots of blood, battles, etc... These are themes found in a lot of metal anyway. Bruce Dickinson said in an interview somewhere (If I can remember where I read it, I'll say so) that a woman handed him a Bible and he said "Hey thanks! This'll make a great resource for some Maiden lyrics!"

I think that's true of all religion, since by its very nature, it has a certain mythical quality to it. And since almost nothing in any one religion is unique, the themes have universal appeal.

Right on, Zane! I am familiar with Pastor Bob! He's cool! I understand where you're coming from:headbang:

I LOVE Better Than Raw for that very reason, Zane! 11/10 My fave Deris-era Hello-disc, easily!:headbang: If it rocks, it rules!:kickass:

Right on! I love Biblical imagery in bands' lyrics and artwork!:headbang:

I would actually take this post seriuosly if I didn't know for a fact he was trying to get a rise out of people!
My fave Christian bands are Bride(Snakes in the Playground &or Kinetic Faith are killer albums), Extol(everything), Deliverance,Trouble, The Crucified, Possession(Eternally Haunt rules), Saviour Machine, Jacob's Dream,ROB ROCK, and the super cool Ken Tamplin.

Maybe so, but if I got on here slamming his band to get a rise out of him, odds are he wouldn't appreciate it. Plus, he'd have a dozen people come to his rescue. Basically, trying to get a rise out of people by degrading what they believe in is as lame as he is. Maybe, the rest of the band members need to convince him to have some manners from now on.

I'm a big Random Eyes fan. They had a really awesome male and female lead vocal attack going (Eyes Ablaze is the album I have and I highly recommend it). Sadly, Katja left the band and Christian is now the lone vocalist. While both are solid vocalists in their own right, there was a "sum greater than the parts" thing going on when they were together :(

Hail! Fun thread! I'm a christian who likes a ton of different metal styles. Favorite xian bands include:

Antestor
Crimson Moonlight
Slechtvalk
Sanctifica
Extol
Mortification
Living Sacrifice
Soul Embraced
Saviour Machine
Virgin Black
Balance of Power
...and a ton of others already mentioned.

Wow, how did I forget Virgin Black? Definitely on my list.

I'm a big Balance of Power fan, but I wouldn't put them in the Christian category. Kind of borderline, I know.

I'm not much of a poster in this forum (or any others really)...more of a watcher from beyond, but I'm going to use this opportunity for a shameless plug for a band I'm been playing bass with for a few months now.

We are a Christian prog metal band that I feel has a bright future. The songs on the myspace site were written and recorded before I was involved. The newer stuff we are writing is generally heavier and much more complex. Any opinions are greatly appreciated.

Oh come on.......
For goodness sakes.
You can't honestly tell me you are THAT sensitive?

Any band who says, "Heavier and more complex" is going to get read the riot act by critics everywhere.
