Church Bell sample anyone? Example clip inside

what is EWQL like? decent collection of samples?

im not gonna be able to get it right now, got other bits of gear i need but ill keep it in mind for future if its worth getting

Yes, I've found it working well enough for my orchestral compositions and symphonic elements in metal. The lack of the two other microphone positions sucks a little but you can still make it to sound good enough.

For example, I think Erik uses EWQL Silver (or Gold, I'm not entirely sure) in his productions.

For the features, it costs very little, but the Play plugin that allows you to play the sounds isn't very good. How well it works for you depends on your system, it doesn't really work well for me.

platinum has more articulations and higher word length... as well three mic positions.

i considered the silver edition but i felt like the 24bit instruments with multi-mic positions was a lot less "canned" sounding.

You're right, but for less than pro productions, I think Silver works well enough. Cheap as I am, I use Silver, Miroslav CE and Logic's own orchestral instruments in my works. Blended together, these three work well enough in my opinion.

That's not to say I wouldn't want Platinum... I'll probably get it one day, and hopefully that day East West has fixed Play.

what about the play engine doesn't work for you?

i believe it is a 64bit engine... are you using a 64bit os?

personally, i have never had a problem with them but i can see how a less than optimal machine could pose a problem with sample buffering, memory allocation etc.

LA scoring strings and VSL are pretty good too... but the effects build into symphobia and hollywood strings are the most useable (imo).

I have a 32-bit OS and my computer is less than optimal, yes.

Still, the main problem I have is that when I load up a project with Play in it, and after that some another project that has Play in it, Logic will crash without question.

Also, projects using Play are prone to random crashes that happen without warning and for no apparent reason.

The newest problem I can remember is one instance of Play kept crashing the project if I did anything that had anything even remotely to do with it. When the part was supposed to start playing, etc. I couldn't even remove the plugin! In the end, I was able to shut down the plugin without removing it and was able to move on.

I have an orchestral composition that was made for an intro for my band's demo, and it has 10+ instances of Play plus dozens of other plugins, no frozen or bounced tracks, and it works much better than I would expect it to.

My point is, I know why I have problems with Play but I don't understand why it acts like this instead of clear problems with my system. Very unpredictable and random.
