Anybody else old enough to remember bands like Angel?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8n07qiAo1lM

I'm always looking for obscure videos of old bands I used to listen to when I was a youngin'! LOL I like to put them on my Myspace page.

This is one I saw live a few times, once with Mahogany Rush. They were a keybaord driven glam rock meets metal meets prog kind of thing. They could kick some ass live. Plus they had the coolest logo that could be read right side up as well as upside down.

Anyone else old enough to remember bands like this from the 70s?

Grandpa Fricken Brett

Early 70's stuff that rocked my world would be things like ELP, Gentle Giant, Magma, Yes, Bowie, Alice Cooper, Robin Trower, Mahavishnu Orchestra, and the likes. And since you mentioned Mahogany Rush, man I wore out a couple copies of both Mahogany Rush IV and World Anthem. Then again I wore out 2112 a few times too.

Gregg Guiffria on keyboards who later formed the band Guiffria & House of Lords (2 great bands). He's not on the new House of Lords due to a his home or studio or something being destroyed in the hurricane that hit LA/MS and he is rebuilding from what l understand.

Angel was around same time as KISS & on same label. They were basically billed as the opposite of KISS...they wore white instead of black, more clean cut, etc. & they had a "miraculous appearance" thing at the start of their live shows where they just appeared on stage as they were playing. Done by mirrors l remember reading about back in the day. I think they also disappeared at end of show. Wish l had seen that.

Just saw Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush last month on his latest tour....3 hours straight, no breaks. The man can still rock! He's mostly blues oriented nowadays, but he still kicked out some of the old jams, too. Awesome!

ANGEL. I loved Angel. Greg had the best hair and Punky Meadows was the cutest. I caught the tail end of the Angel area. I saw the movie FOXES and they were in it. That was the beginning of the end for me.lol. Long hair boys, musicians and Hollywood

Actually in the mid to late 80's there was a local band that captured the Angel sound and look..They were called WHITE SISTER. The signer of White Sister still performs.

Good to see another FZ fan around here!:kickass:

"Punky's Whips" absolutely slays! NOT recommended for people who can't handle humor in music...

Punky Rocked and Punky's Whips was a classic. Zappa spared nobody. He was especially fond of roasting glam, disco, jewish and gay people but nobody was spared Zappa's Satire. I mean Bobby Brown is uhh er to the point LOL.
I saw Zappa live a few times. Once on New Years eve when Zoot Allures came out and he played for 3 1/2 hours and I was in the second row. (aww the days when you didn't have to battle the ticket brokers for the good seats):zombie:

ROBIN TROWER for gosh sakes the man is a legend. Former guitar player for Procol Harum, went out on his own and did some awesome stuff, and he is still around and playing.
Another favorite and i will like them till the day i die and that is SLADE, they still play also but with only 2 or 3 of the original members but still they play.

Electric Light Orchestra is by far one of the greatest bands to grace my ears!!
Also, I've always been and always will be a huge Cheap Trick fan.....they still look and sound amazing live and their latest disc "Rockford" is superb....

Yep, it ages me but I started really getting into music in 1979 so
I well remember bands like Angel and I still enjoy pulling that stuff
out from time to time. If you want to hear a modern band really
resurrecting that '70s pomp/prog sound of groups like Queen, Styx, Saga, Yes, etc you should check out A.C.T. Interesting music, I'll have a review of
their latest album SILENCE in Detritus soon...
