I'm looking for hotel rooms, and everyone's been saying that Agora is in a bad neighborhood, but if I searched for a hotel in just "downtown" would that be a bad idea?

Getting a hotel in downtown cleveburg would be a good idea. It would be a short drive to the club.
There are neither any hotels or good restaurants near the agora to my knowledge.
It is just a more dirty run down part of town. No big deal, just not really the area where you want to go on a sightseeing walk.

Well the ones I've found in the "downtown" search in this particular search are higher than some others I found for the outskirts of town....I know we don't want to try to stay in the neighborhood, but I didn't know about downtown.
I found one south of the city, as well as east, southwest, and west. The thing is, I really have no idea how long of a drive it will be to these, but it shouldn't matter if I can book them now.

Do you live in Ohio?

The Agora is on East 55th and Euclid. You will pay a high price to stay downtown and you pretty much have to go to at least East 185th to get a decent area if you are going to stay on the East side. I suggest looking around Cleveland-Hopkins airport. It is about 10 minutes away, and it is in a good West side area.
I can post directions if you are interested.
I cannot suggest strongly enough that you stay on the West side unless you are travelling East the next morning in which case you should stay somewhere off of 90E or SR2 East of East 185th street.

I live in Ohio, maybe two hours drive south of Cleveland.
I think it would be AOK to get a cheaper hotel on the outskirts of town. I am not super familiar with Cleveland, but I know Parma is a nice enough suburb on the south, some 'best western' and 'bob evens' kinda places right off the freeway. Mabe another half hour to the agora.

thanks...the one I'm hoping to stay in the most was in the "south" region...it's in Independence.....how far away is that?

Another option is "west," in Lakewood

I'm staying at a hotel on the same street as the Agora...Best Hotel 3614 EUCLID AVE. You can try calling them at 1-800-237-8466 or 216-361-8969. I figure if it's a bad area my friends and I will call a cab. I hear parking will be a nightmare due the other concert that is playing there(3 doors down is it?). I plan on having beer and such in my room so whoever wants to party after is welcome.

That area is a total hood. Every homeless wino and addict hang out in that general area. If you are in a group you should be fine, but i certainly would not stay overnight anywhere close to there.

The methadone clinic and temp worker place is right across the street from the Agora so it is filled with hustlers and junkies. I suggest cancelling your room and getting one elsewhere.

It's OK...I'll be better armed than any of them. Plus the guys I'm with can take care of themselves. Still though...I wish I would of known the area was a dump, I would have planned differently. I think it would be too late to cancel now.

No, actually it isn't. You can probably cancel...the hotel that I booked said cancellation notices must be received before like 6 p.m. on the day of check-in. So I guess it's up to you.

Independence is quite commercial with office buildings and such, so all their hotel rooms will be geared toward business execs staying there. It is a nice area.

I did a search on hotwire.com for downtown hotel rooms and came up w/ prices ranging from $31 - $48. Probably will book one tomorrow.

And if anyone knows someone who needs a ticket I'll probably have an extra. :)
