ok, I tried a few things.
first line6 Toneport, DI signal seems quite good, i can still make it clip when picking hard on my les paul, but at least the clipping doesn't sound too bad, i'm guessing the UX1 has a built in limiter.
next up : cheapass Behringer DI-100 connected to one of the mic preamps on my profire 2626.. and behold... the behringer can't handle the loud peaks of my guitar, and when it clips it makes this ugly "tek tek" sound. I can put the pad of the behringer to -20 db, but that did make my guitarsignal weak and noisy, unusable for anything serious, pickup on the les paul was a duncan full shred, i already backed it up from the strings to lower the output a bit but that didn't help much.
next : instrument input on the m-audio... worked well, no clipping , good sound
