Clockwork-Surface Tension

IS anyone else familiar with this album/band. From my understanding this is only album they made and broke up. Amazing album, very Early Dream Theaterish.

HIGHLY RECOMENDED

Any Opinions?


BTW..... What other bands have had one or two great Albums and then just broke up.....

There's alot of bands that popped out 1 or 2 great prog metal releases only to fade away afterward. First ones that come to mind are...

Digital Ruin - Listen & Dwelling in the Out

Opposite Earth - Headspace

Altura - Mercy

Heaven's Cry - Food for Thought Substitute & Primal Power Addiction

Some oldies but goodies in this thread. Opposite Earth - Headspace was one of my favorite 90's prog albums!

Divine Regale - Ocean Mind (or Horizons, for the troo-proggers :) )
Dofka - Toxic Wasteland (they are not broken up but I include them because their album came out >10 years ago)
Divided Multitude - Inner Self, and Falling to Pieces (the vocals won't be for everyone, but I love them)
Treasure Land - Questions (their proggy masterpiece) and Gateway (their much more Euro-happy-metal-oriented album)
Sea of Dreams - Dawn of Time, and Land of Flames (poor production, but some masterful epic prog material)
 
Fucking awesome album. One of my favorite prog metal discs of all time, and one of very few that I can still listen to these days.

This isn't just your typical DT clone prog metal.
 
I love the Clockwork disc (very Yes like to my ears)
I love the Divine Regale (but Horizons > Ocean Mind)
The Altura disc wasn't bad either, but could of been produced heavier

and have to add Dali's Dilemma & Lemur Voice. Probably my favorite 2 Magna Carta releases.

Good stuff. A little doomy for my tastes but good nevertheless.

Adding...

Aztec Jade - 3 releases w/new material , Concrete Eden being my favorite.

Ascension Theory - band that came out of the Aztec Jade breakup. Regeneration & Answers.

Behind the Curtain - Till Birth Do Us Part

Avalon - 4 releases, Eurasia being the best. Cmon Chity, we want more Avalon!
 
Did anybody say Mercury Rising - Upon Deaf Ears yet? That was a great one. The follow-up, Building Rome, was so-so at best.

Mayadome - Paranormal Activity and Near Life Experience were awesome as hell.

Mindcage - Encapsulation was a great proggy EP.
 
Hell yeah, Ice Age's The Great Divide and Aztec Jade's Frame of Mind were great Prog CD's. As was the Treasure Land CD

Several others that really kicked my ass were

New Sun - Affects (1998)
Monolith - S/T (1998) Dutch prog Rock
Paranoize - Private Power
Event (Mystic Fishook) - Electric Skies (1997)
Beyond Reality - Lost Shades of Light (1996)
Timothy Pure - Demo & Blood of The Berry
Stranglehold - Elemental (more power metal than prog but phenomenal).
Divine Regale - Ocean Mind
Stone Ambition - The Closing Sky
Fortress Under Seige - S/T Greek Prog Metal
The Tiles - Presents of Mind (yeah they got 5 CD's but how could a band release that many and get little acclaim).
 
Clockwork was an excellent band! Unfortunately, they only released two discs. Aside from "Surface Tension," they self-released an EP entitled "Search" in 1997. That one's extremely hard to find. It took me quite some time to find a copy, but it was totally worth it. They kind of reminded me of what you would get if Pain Of Salvation were to lean more toward the side of progressive rock in the late 90s.

As for other bands that put out one or two killer discs only to disappear, I would certainly have to agree with the mentions of Altura, Dali's Dilemma, Divine Regale, Heaven's Cry, Ice Age, Lemur Voice, Mayadome, and Mercury Rising. To add to that, I would include Alchemy X, Attention Deficit, Auditory Imagery, Cacophony, Chiaroscuro, Cydonia, Destiny Dreaming, Divine Ruins, Dream Child, Heir Apparent, Imperium, and Radakka.

Power metal yes, but awesome! It had some neat time sig changes going on in addition to sick shredding. Unfortunately, it was a lot better than the followup Transitions.
