The title says it all:

I`m thrilled by the way their guitars sound.
As I am using a 5150 and my new weapon, the Framus Cobra I must say
that something is still missing.
Guys, your guitars sound awesome,
what is it that makes sound like the picks are glued to the strings?
Is it the C4?
Or that dolby thing?
I know all about the techniques (2x SM 57, Marshall Cab etc.), but my guitars
just wont sound as "sticky",
here is a sample of my work:

this song kicks ass

I was lucky enough to sit in on a mixing session with Colin on a recent project and to be honest he hardly touched the tracks - that i saw anyway. The set up was

prs > 2x 81's

maxon 808od

diezel vh4 > mesa standard sm57 straight on slightly off centre

at the same time doubling with

5150 > mesa standard sm57 as above

API pre into pro tools

At mixing all that was done was a little compression and a very narrow notch at 130ish - 18db max (massenberg plug in) that was now - back in the day with machinehead and fear factory I don't know. But the lesson I learnt was get in fucking right first otherwise it'll never be right later. And I guess that comes from experience. Although the eq'ing at 130ish is a great help and combined with a bit of band specific compression really opens up the guitars and allows to push em right up without masking the bass and drum fundamentals.

A thing that shocked me was how dry everything was - yet how polished and in a specific space it all sounded - again a master at work is a great ting to see.

The local studio owner that took me in for several sessions is favoring the 'track it right' approach too. He does barely any processing during mixing, simply because he usually doesn't have to.

Makes you wonder how much these many hours spent mixing to polish turds is actually an uphill battle.

Hailz everybody,

Pity is not necessary! The Band still exists!:heh:

To the guitar sound:

Maybe it would be helpful, if you refer to a certain recording? Then it would be easier to understand what you "hear"!:)

Cheers :kickass: :kickass: :kickass:

well, very difficult to describe:

If you listen to the Bullet for my valentine record or the Roadrunner stuff, I hear something that sounds close to the vintagewarmer:
It sounds like the guitars get their own grip...
really damn hard to describe:listen closely and try to hear in parts where the guitars play on their own (hit the floor, for example).
sounds like these guitars are just about to explode, a lot of energy seems to be bound behind something.
Andy, am I on the right direction:Smokin: ??
