Communic

I should check it out, the first album was good, but the 2 last songs left me with a "meh" feeling.

The first one didn't do it for me. The new one is an improvment, but they'd be better if the singer would do something a little more original. Musically, they're not overly Nevermore-ish - similar vein, but they don't sound like a rip-off - but the singer phrasing exactly like Warrel veers them into clone territory.

I like them better than Nevermore, because they seem to be more varied. plus I don't like Warrel's voice that much...but I like that Communic guy's singing, so thats odd

Got into them right after seeing live video for Ocean Bed. Yes, I agree that you can hear a lot of Nevermore there. Afterall, they've all got Nevermore listed as favourite band on their website. In my opinion tho, they are fresh and interesting and definately what i want to listen to among all the new bands.

I just got WOVD and I immediately came here to see if this band has been mentioned yet. At first I actually thought it was the WD project with Wichers from Soilwork. The first vocals are exactly like WD and I'd say this is the first time I've ever heard a band and said they sound like Nevermore, or the singer reminds me of WD....how many times have you said that...???? Never! I'm more than happy to hear a band that reminds me of my favorite band. This is damn good stuff from a 3 piece!

This is one of my favorite new bands. I was pleasantly suprised when I popped in the cd, having never heard them before. I definitely was not expecting the vocals. I'll agree the singer does sound a lot like Warrel at times, especially with his melody lines and harmonies he chooses. I thikn the guy's voice is phenomenal! On the new album, his vocals are way more soaring and confident, whereas on the first one they're more depressing in an eerie sort of way. To me, he sounds like a mix of Warrel, Dave Mustaine, and Rob Halford. The music reminds me more of something like Megadeth than Nevermore, though. I like both albums a lot, but Waves of Visual Decay is definitely stronger all around.

What impresses me most about this band is that the singer is also the only guitarist in the band. Singing like that AND playing guitar like that at the same time is beyond incredible. I automatically assumed the band was a 6 piece with two guitarists and a singer. When I learned the guy does it all himself I was that much more impressed. I downloaded some live video clips form their site and they definitely play well live. I'd love to see them someday.

My only complaints are the obvious Warrel-isms and Mustaine-isms with the vocals, the repeatitiveness of the music at times, and how some of the tunes remind me completley of other specific songs (ie. Ocean Bed sounds liek taht Queensryche song I hear on the radio all the time and Frozen in the Park reminds me of The Memory Remains by Metallica).

Overall, this band is major fun to listen to and the guy's voice brings the chills!

edit: one other complaint is the lyrics, really cheesy for the most part.

Yeah, when I found out this was a 3 piece, I was even more impressed....I hear some Queensryche and even some Crimson Glory in there too. They never quite get as heavy as NM, but it is a great CD to fill the space until the new Slayer and LOG come out. I think some people are offended they sound so much like NM, but I'm glad to see our boys have influenced others.

their first album is the only one I listened to and it sounds very good to me.
the reason why i am actually reviving this thread is that, don't ask me why, the other day, while i was listening to the album, i got the desire to listen to "Architecture of the imagination" from Paralysis. I think ppl who like communic, would dig this one as well.
