ok, im 14 years old and my parents are paranoid and wont let me go to any metal concerts i want to go to because they are thoroughly convinced something will happen to me, can you guys write some stuff to prove to them that no bad stuff happens at metal concerts for the most part? This would be greatly appreciated.
 
Ozz - do you have any older freinds that can drive you to a show and watch out for you. That's how I started going to shows and it might help convince Mom and Dad it will be alright.

You could breakdown and ask Dad to go but I know that's not cool.
 
good advice DD. My older sisters friends took me to see Iron Maiden with the Scorpians and Girlschool back in 1982, and nothing has happened.

Concerts are on the whole are really, really safe. Maybe have your Dad take you to a concert, and show him how much fun, and safe they are. I had my dad take me to see a show when I was your age (he had to drive so he went). He hated the music (I think it was Testament) but liked how they got the crowd into the music, and how much fun everyone had.


Mom and Dad, let the guy go to see some metal concerts.

I went to Social Distortion a little while back and Mike Ness brought the youngest 2 kids in the crowd (10 & 11) on stage showing us elders the future of music. Also, same show there was a 10-12 year old girl (probably 4'8" tall maybe 90lbs.) in the mosh pit the whole time! She was having a great time!

I also agree w/DD, there should be someone older there with you.

However, my first show I was about your age: General Public! Am I showing my age?
 
When I was like 16 when SOWN first came out, I had my dad drive me and my friend up to Baltimore to check out Anthrax at HammerJacks. He had to grease the doorman to let me and my bud in cuz it was 18 and over. He hung out at the bar next door during the show and didn't mind hanging out at that bar while me and my bud went autograph hounding. It was the first and only time I ever met Spitz.


If I had kids, I'd probably take them to shows. At least get them in the right direction as far as musical taste goes.
 
hey ozz- My parents were really paranoid about it too, and I'm a girl, so it was worse...they thought people were going to attack/rape/kill me and other such nonsense. I think I'm going to repeat what everyone else is saying by telling you- don't go alone...Do you have a friend that they trust? or Maybe a friend of yours that has gone to shows can tell them what goes on...also, maybe you can show them a DVD of some live shows so they can see no one is sacrificing babies or anything. It's understandable to think you could get hurt IE- the pit, but you can avoid that...otherwise you just get pretty sweaty and your voice gets hoarse from yelling but it's all in good fun. :) I hope they let you go...are you going to show them this thread? I think you should. Hi Mom & Dad!!!! :wave:

You know, other than seeing a guy get knocked out with one punch at Metallica, almost going to the show where Dimebag and those other people were murdered, the Sepultura show my friend went to where a fight broke out and the police had to mace the crowd, the security guard at L'Amours in Brooklyn killing someone by tossing him on his head, and those 102 people who died in that fire at a Great White show, I can't think of anything BAD happening at concerts. Your parents need to chill.
 
Do you have any older family members that like the same music you like? My first show was when I was 14 and it was a Pantera concert.Talk about an intense first concert..My cousin who was 25 at the time and my older brother took me and watched out for me the whole time. For the most part people are really cool but I have had some run-ins with some serious assholes too. I guess it all boils down to what show that you want to see. When I went to see Anthrax and Dio in Detroit this last fall, Dio took this kid who was with his dad onstage...It was pretty damn cool and the kid couldn't have been older than 10. It was so cool to watch a little metal head onstage headbanging with Dio and throwing the horns while Dio was playing "Rock and Roll Children".
 
...and everything you mentioned (besides the fire) has happened everyday, in every city, on every street corner.

:zombie: :muahaha: I have a 14 yrs old daugther i have taken to Anthrax and Dio... She been to a Death Angel Show and a Joan Jett Show.... We stood at the Front Barrier for Anthrax in San Francisco..... And She coming to Chicago with me........ I was 14 when i saw Kiss and Cheap Trick........Hey Bring you mom.........IS she HOT????
 
Ask one of your parents to take you. Offer to pay for their ticket if you can. I got my dad to take me and a friend to Maiden when I was your age. We just split the cost of his ticket.
 
If your responsable in all the other aspects of your life they owe it to you to trust you with doing this as well. If your room is clean and you get good grades, keep out of trouble and help out around the house it should show enough responsability, and maturity for them to allow you this.

A dude getting knocked out in one punch at a Metallica concert??

I saw a dude get blown at a Metallica concert. Remember that Daniel?? What else happened that day?? Enlighten the message board with some funny stories.
 
school is probably a more violent environment or even down the main sreet of town at any given time,a metal concert can be as tame as u wont it to be.
