Confession Time

Thanks for clearing that up, Spiff. I still have a lot of catching up to do where Sunnydale's favourite Slayer is concerned. So far I've only watched Season 4 and am just getting underway on 5. Probably shouldn't have started in the middle :).

I am, however, very impressed with the first season of Angel, and will be watching/taping Giles' spin-off series (Ripper) religiously from day one.

I am not just bagging him because don't like his music, I know what I am talking about, as I have listened to his first two albums quite alot (some of my friends like him  ) and have heard the single from the new album non-stop on the radio.

For a start, listen to the guys lyrics. For just a small sample of the things that his songs cover, we have beating and raping women, killing exgirlfriends, killing the neighbours because their dogs are barking, he tells his fans to leave him the fuck alone because he doesn't like people, dealing and doing drugs, bagging out homosexuals, and the list goes on and on. Particularly in his new song, he is saying how everyone should follow his lead and start controversy. Now you might think "its just a song, whos gonna listen", but take a look at his fan base. Mostly teenage males, at an impressionable age, that get inspired by this music and think its cool to do what he says. Thats where alot of kids pick up bad language from too...
On the radio the other night I heard a little girl ring in to request his new song to be played. The girl can't have been older than 9 or 10, and I think that is just sick. Kids shouldn't be exposed to the sort of shit that he stirs.
I read an article a few months ago about how metal bands like 'Slayer' cop alot of flack for promoting killing and stuff, and have been taken to court over such things, and are heavily frowned upon by society, but then you have Eminem who is doing the same thing only worse, and is getting off much lighter. In the article they compared the lyrics of Slayer and Eminem, and with Slayer, they were simply describing a virgin sacrifice (like most metal, is descriptive and tells a story), where as with the Eminem lyrics, he was telling the listener to kill. Metal gets a bad reputation, and parents let their kids listen to Eminem, while he sits at the top of the charts. Whats the world coming too...

So yeah, thats why I think he should be shot. :)

I actually dont think Slayer should be sold to minors myself, story or not, it has some really graphic lyrics I would never want a kid to see/hear, they should do that with Eminem as well.

Its for the kids, wont somebody think of the children? ;)

But you have to think of the CHILDREN! ;)

F**king parents, thats whose fault it all is you know, they should be watching what their kids listen to, not blaming bands after the kid goes bezerk.......

So am i a bad parent because i listen to all music including Slayer with my Kids around? And yes that is also the 5 or 6 Eminem songs i like.

And Blitzy i totally get ya point about the Eminem, and i hate the songs that are like that, but he does have a few good ones, mainly on his newest album, as phloggy said

Lot's of great points in that post Blitzkrieg, but this is one I feel strong about too. When you hear about stuff like this, it just tells you that societys downfall has begun. If you came to Labrador City, you'd see it too... Nearly every single young(and old for that matter) teenager thinks Eminem is God.. and it shows... where I live it's no shock to hear about 11/12/13 year olds already drinking, smoking, doing drugs, etc etc.... It just sickens me. Im not saying Eminem is the cause of it all of course, but the music you listen to certainly influences you!!
And I too hate the fact that Slayer has gotten a horrible reputation because of all the stuff they went through, and Eminem just gets a slap on the wrist with everything he's gone through!! I guess it's all about what's in the mainstream..

Eminem is a bit of a crown and anchor really, isn't he?

I can't think of any modern pop music I like!

Shit, it's apostrophes ahoy in my posts these days!

!

Exclamation marks, Winmar, not apostrophes :)

I have an opinion on this whole Eminem thing but I'll save it until tonight. Let me just say quickly, though, that you all sound just like the oldies when rock & roll and, later, metal started. Next you'll be saying Eminem is the devil's music!

No because you watch what your kids listen to! :D

Blitzy that big post was spot on I reckon, about Eminem :) Rap music in general is far more "dangerous" I spose you could say than metal. It all glorifies drug use, gang violence, smackin' ya bithces, and some of 'em say fuck in nearly every line. I remember in high school when Snoopy Doggy Dogg was big, before pretty much every noun he used "motherfuckin" as the adjective hahaha. It's like "I'm Snoop Doggy Dogg in the motherfuckin' house, put a fat dick in your motherfuckin' mouth..." (I remember some song with that fat dick line haha)

I find that usually violence in metal is used as part of an anti-war/anti-violence type statement (especially in thrash metal..), or to tell a battle or horror story. Metal bands never really glorify drug use (except maybe Sabbath back in the early '70s like in Sweet Leaf), and hardly swear unless you count Slipknot and Limp Bizkit and all those other "jump the fuck up motherfuckas" bands as being metal.

I find most metal to have a very positive attitude. And the times it isn't, its usually because its sending a message about something, or in the case of lots of death/grind its just like harmless exploitation stuff. No different than watching Necromaniak or Bloodsucking Freaks or something.

Southy: Vinnie hasn't done anything for ages coz his wife was killed and he went silent. The only thing he's done is sue Kiss for not paying him proper royalties.

  I laughed my ass off at that for some reason, good one Troops :D

Metal is just as bad as rap, just because we listen to metal doesnt make it less subversive :) (Though not ALL metal is, and thats probably true of rap too, but I dont listen to it, so I dont know, maybe its not...)

Have to disagree with that. The reason that I do listen to metal is because I find it as intelligant music, with lots of depth. As Troops said, most rap is way more 'dangerous' than most metal, and I am not just saying that, as I have a friend who is a big rap fan, and have seen/heard lots of it. Hardly any metal actually promotes the use of drugs and killing ect, but I have heard it in rap so many times, and the language in rap is much worse. Metal is generally used to tell a story or to get a message across.

Spiffy, I will be interested to here what you have to say about all this. :)
