What a great Nordic hockey game for the Gold Medal. Me being ethnically part Fin I was rooting for them, but awesome game either way. Most grueling and entertaining of the whole tournament.

lol
yeah i had seen the semi final sweden vs Czech republic.
so the final was sweden vs finland?
thats cool cause before the semi finals i was hoping for them to get to the finals, but i thought the russians would beat the fins.

EDIT: error

me too.. im russian myself.. i was rooting for them.. but the ruski team had a bad defense but w/e.. the finns deserved it.. they did a good job..

congrats to the swedes for the gold!

I've never seen a faster game of hockey played ever than the one between Finland and Russia. I was actually amazed to see the Fins not only keep up but many times surpass the Russians. To me it was kind of unexpected.

ya.. its weird too because the finns play on smaller rinks back home so i thought my comrads would out skate them..

the finn's defense was awesome though

Finland had a really small, technical and fast team, good against other fast teams like Russia but bad against more physical and bigger teams like Sweden... Great tournament from both Sweden and Finland anyway.

If you asked me before the OG who would i want to play in the final i would say Finland and Sweden, and Swedes where my favourites for the gold, but the way the Finns played the tournament, i wanted them to win, but still... Congrats to all the Swedes and the Finns.

i tell you russia is pretty "physical"

did u see them check the czechs in the game for bronze?

my comrads are brutal!

and to think that Sweden won it without Forsberg... russia may have done better if they wouldn't have played as individuals. i'm just glad that i'll get to see the olympic hockey live in 2010, maybe the north american teams will have their act together by then.

Forsberg was there he just didn't do much. Zetterberg was on fire though. Come to think of it all of team Sweden from the Detroit Red Wings were killers throughout the tournament. My 2nd fav NHL team :)

/edit: I knew that . . .

Pagan, you'd DIE over here!!! I almost killed myself laughing at the anouncers this time...every time Åke Berg got the puck they'd make comments like "Fåårrrsburg passes to Acki Buurg". There are just some names that are impossible for none-Swedes to figure out, and that poor guy has one of them. Ohlund and Naslund don't sound much better, but I'm so used to hearing those names because they play for "our" local team that I don't react much anymore. I do think it's funny when the kids here call him Nasse for short, though (Nasse is the Swedish name for Piglet in Winnie the Pooh)!

Forsberg certainly played - I know, cuz my brother did the physio on him;-)

All of this may now be null and void, since the Swedish Olympic committee is trying to strip the team of the gold... Fucking brilliant!

Yanks (be they canadian, unionist, confederalists or cubans or the like) can't speak other languages without sounding hilarious. Just listen to what those quebec people call french. FRENCH!!? ANyway what's up with the last thing you wrote about the olympic committee?

OK,so this is how I understand it: the Swedish team won the hockey. Then Mats Sundin chartered a jet and flew the team home on Sunday (before the closing of the games) in order for all the players (- the Sedins and Modin who had to be back for a game) could receive the love of the people before they all had to go back to the NHL, and wherever else they are playing, overseas. Nice thing to do, I thought... In Stockholm there were many people cheering in the street and the Swedish hockey federation decided to erect a stage to parade the players, give them flowers or whatever. On the backdrop was the logo of the sponsor of the team. The Swedish Olympic committee has now filed a law suit against the federation, wanting damages in the zillions, because the sponsor's logo was displayed publicly before the closing ceremonies. If they do not get damages, they have already petitioned the IOC to have the team stripped of the gold.
I haven't heard since - it made the front page in Svenska Dagbladet, DN and Expressen a few days ago. The on-line version from Thursday or Wed this week. I first heard it by word of mouth from my bro and mom. I'll ask if there's anything new, but I don't expect so, as lawsuits take time. Either way, what a bunch of bullcrap, huh?! It's not a joke or meant to be funny - they are actually serious.

So you didn't see the game between Slovakia and Czech Republic then? Talk about fast hockey! I'm amazed the players and the referee could keep up!
Still, Finland played a really good game against Russia, and I must admit I didn't think Sweden would be able to beat them in the finals.

Cheers to us! Olympic Champions! :kickass:

Well sis, it's not Åke Berg. I think they ment the finnish defenseman Aki-Petteri Berg... Just so you know ;)

Still funny to hear their futile attempts to pronounce scandinavian names though ;)
