The Tigers were beat because they had way too long of a break between series. The cards still had that momentum from just coming off of beating the Mets. They barely beat the Mets. The Mets had their aces on the DL for crying out loud.

Not much of a failure when you think of their record in the past upteen years, they accomplished a lot. Yeah Kenny was cheating but he washed his hands in the first inning and still threw a phenomenal game, he should have started the last game.
