Controlling the low end?

Dug up an old song of mine to try out some mic positions, moved the cab around everywhere. I have huge amounts of resonance from my room in my guitars, how am I supposed to control this?

can we hear the guitars in solo? its hard to judge the low end in the guitar tone if we're hearing the bass track along with it.

Yeah, solo'd files would be nice. I can tell you right now the waves C4 plugin is pretty good for that, if you're looking for a plugin solution, otherwise you could do some cool sidechaining ducking shit...

Yeah, C4 definitely. It's a multiband comp. In mastering situations, it's usually better to compress the low end alone instead of cutting it out with a high pass. just compress 150-200hz or so..really depends on the mix though.

Question. Would one ever compress 100h and below? Or is multi banding used mainly to tackle small windows of frequency ranges?

Your 125 - 250 hz should be EQ'd pretty low. Maybe even hipass to around 120hz.

its for whatever you need it for really. i'll use it for stuff even below 40hz sometimes

you mainly want to compress the low end via a multiband compressor just to tame it down a little and keep it balanced, not so much take it out as with high passing with an EQ. It's always best to get a balanced MIX before hitting your master with C4 or a similar multiband Compressor to control the low end. If i was to turn off C4 on my master, the difference would be pretty minimal because i try to get the mix as balanced as i can instead of using my master to fix all of that up. but i also use C4 on my guitars (mainly when im using pod farm) just to keep the low end under control anywhere from 100-250hz depending on the style and tone
