I just checked out your Facebook and saw that you worked with Skies. One of my friends from back home just joined them as their guitarist. Pretty cool!
sup catharsis !
I have a question about the overheads micing :
you mic the over with 90 degrees angle looking on a cymbal .. how thats works for ? making phase problems ? and it sounds more focused cymbal wise?
why dont you mic them with the mics looking at the snare ? and this setup makes the cymbals less airy ?
It depends on what you want in your OH's tracks. In metal is pretty normal to have the best separation so the cymbals mics have to mic the cymbals and not the snare (you will also hi-pass the oh's tracks).
There are different techniques anyway.... spaced pair (this), X-Y and many others.
It's not uncommon to point OH mics away from the kit, towards outside (sometimes even with the snare being in their null point, if you know you're gonna sample replace it).
