could some English person post the new WIRE's Kayo Dot review here please?

got me thinking a bit that the bands that are commonly hailed as 'doing the most for the scene' and a la Lord of Chaos touted as being the most influential (implication: good) on metal (Venom et al) are actually bands that have probably done more harm than good in the ways that they've influenced "Metal".
I never understand comments like that because when a band is extremely influential for as much harm they do, they pave way for something good. Venom may have sucked but they have influenced 100s+ of artists that don't suck. For all the Mayhems and Darkthrones you've got your Enslaveds and Emperors, Sighs and Immortals (weird sentence). Venom did more good than bad when it comes to paving the way for better artists, but more bad than good when it comes to the actual music they made. The same can be said for Nirvana (who I actually like). People complain they did more harm than good...howso? There are still complex artists around, they're just underground, it just changed the mainstream and actually helped some good artists to surface (between the utter shit).

I agree Venom definately didn't help the image of metal though, that's for sure. Haha.

I won't get into whether Nirvana's impact was mostly negative, but claiming that soft-loud dynamics were established by them was ludicrous...if anything, they made a formula out of contrasts that had been common in nearly all forms of music for years.

PS Love the umbilical metaphor.
