Look my SX3 came with a little usb key that goes into the computer and the program wont start without it
Its that simple
I asked a simple question!!!

FFS, the whole point of the dongle is so you can take the software license with you.

giving you the benefit of the doubt for a sec, most VST plugins can just be copied to the new VST plugins folder. Others need the installer. This is a PC to PC process, can't just copy your vsts on the pc and expect them to work on the mac, they won't work at all.

also, editing your posts after being called out on something makes it look even shadier.

and here's an answer to your question:

most programs installed on an external HD will not work for another computer if you simple plug it in. Some simple ones do, but a lot dont.

However, if you have the operating system boot from the external drive as well as the program, in theory you could just plug it into another PC. However you wouldn't have any of the correct drivers for any of the hardware, so it would be a complete arse to set up.
not worth the bother IMO although i've done it before.

BTW guys he edited before anyone replied, and he never mentioned keygens! Talk about guilty unless proved innocent........

EDIT: ok i guess i can't read the time, sorry

Arrite, I've heard that many a times.

When you install a software it writes stuff into the operating system's registry + plus in hands in a few dlls yadayada into the windows/system/blah folder as well.

Therefore, not possible.

Keygens aren't a factor. And yes, please don't post them here. Looks ugly.

Cheers!

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and just think you meant "license device", whether that means software license number (challenge response) or dongle, or in some cases the file you have to copy to the directory of the plug in (I don't know of that many plugs that use this, I think sonalkis does, as well as stillwell audio).

As far as I know the answer is no, the easiest way (to my knowledge) to move from computer to computer is a dongle, most of the plug ins I have purchased only let you license it on 3 machines (although I think that is plenty personally) unless you use a dongle (then who cares, you just move the dongle). All 3 have to be installed, I think challenge response unlocks use your computer's ID or thumbprint in order to unlock it (that is why you have to be online yo!). I suppose the 3rd method would just involve taking the license file along with the plug in.

That's how ya do it legit. FWIW most of my challenge response plugs had the ability to move the license to my ilok (and therefore I just did that).
