Cradle Of Filth - Damnation And A Day

Well aside form playing bigger venues and getting on TV they are still true to their christ hateing underground roots, and they don't have piss weak punk support acts, they get big names in the underground like Immolation and Akercocke, CoF got lucky, they didn't sell out, the new album proves that because there is no way the average trendy is gonna find this easy to get into

Well, the average trendie's (mallcore trash as i call them) Cradle of Filth vocabulary begins and ends with "Babalon A.D.". A good example was at their concert in Houston which I attended. They were a few songs into their set when Dani announced that they were going to play Babalon A.D.. Now, I'm not too thrilled with this song, to put it honestly, its a mistake. Anyway, all the sudden alot of mallcore trash behind me started talking about how much they loved Uranium for showing the video and then they started heavily moshing right behind us. As soon as the song ended, and "Funeral In Carpathia" started, they just stood there, quite confused. I actually heard one of them mutter "what's this shit?" So I do think that they have sold out to some degree (like American ozzfest, pathetic), but it's great knowing that the moment some mallcore trash see's the JESUS IS A CUNT t-shirt, they will likely have a change of heart on the matter of liking the band.

Oh, and for this concert, they didn't have great support acts. Killswitch Engage opened, and they are horrible nu-metal. I stood with my back to the stage, flicking them off...stupid cunts.

Its sickening to see people with emperor pics in their signatures, and making references that say this album sounds like emperor. What a fucking disgrace. Cradle of Filth have no purpose on this planet, and should be obliterested instantly. Emperor is aeons above the level of COF and always will be. I see no similarities.

The only way to really enjoy this album is to sit and listen to it while reading the lyrics, otherwise the story goes straight over your head. Also, apart from "Better To Reign In Hell", "Doberman Pharoah" and "Babalon Ad" the songs are totally devoid of hooks or even chorus, which does not make for an enjoyable album.

I used to be very much into Cradle of Filth; some might have even called me a fanboy. This has not been so for a long while though, although I do like to occasionally spin an album or two...namely Dusk and Her Embrace.

However, I don't like this album. I found it to be generally boring, and do in fact blame a lot of it on Sony, or at least Cradle's desire to become more accessible. Now I'm not saying they sold out or anything, but whether you like the album or not, you have to admit it is infinitely more accessible to the general populations than any album released in the past.

3/10 at best.

There are some utterly excellent songs on Damnation and a Day, but at the same time (and for the first time on a COF album) there's some really really bland ones too. Shame. They should have cut the album in half and it would have been much better....asides from the missed story anyway. =)
