Here's what's new this week from Crucial Blast HQ:

-----------------------------------------------------
SKULLFLOWER IIIRD GATEKEEPER PREORDER PACKAGE
-----------------------------------------------------
we have just put up the new limited edition preorder package for SKULLFLOWER's IIIrd Gatekeeper reissue, which includes an exclusive shirt design created in cooperation with Skullflower's Matthew Bower! You can check out all of the details for this preorder package by clicking on the banner above or by going here:

SKULLFLOWER IIIrd Gatekeeper preorder page:

http://crucialblast.net/skullflowerpreorder.html

The long-awaited reissue CD of Skullflower's classic album IIIrd Gatekeeper will be coming out on November 20th from Crucial Blast, and in celebration of this monumental release, we are offering a limited edition preorder package that consists of an exclusive, never-to-be reprinted shirt design that will only be available with this package, the deluxe IIIrd Gatekeeper reissue CD, and a set of 1" acetate buttons featuring a mix of original artwork from the album as well as new designs. This preorder package will be avilable through November 10th, at which time ordering availability will be closed. This exclusive new IIIrd Gatekeeper shirt design features brand new artwork created in cooperation with Skullflower's Matthew Bower, printed in metallic silver and white ink on a black Gildan 100% cotton preshrunk garment.

Skullflower's acclaimed 1992 album IIIrd Gatekeeper featured the lineup of Matthew Bower (guitar), Stuart Dennison (drums and vocals), and Anthony DiFranco (bass), and which had originally been released on HeadDirt, the label run by Justin Broadrick of Godflesh/Jesu/Final fame back in the early 90's. This is Skullflower at their heaviest, grinding out slow, sludgy riffs and crushing, almost industrial rhythms amid a tempest of psychedelic guitar noise and dense sheets of feedback - easily the most crushing, rock-based music that Skullflower ever produced. A skulldozing dose of post-industrial dirge rock that sits comfortably next to the likes of Godflesh, Swans, and Ramleh in terms of dark, druggy, hypnotic lumbering heaviosity.

The CD reissue of IIIrd Gatekeeper features the crucial post-industrial dirge rock album presented in our most exquisite package design to date, a 4-panel gatefold jacket that features all of the original artwork from the original HeadDirt release from 1992, a booklet that features extensive liner notes on Skullflower and IIIrd Gatekeeper from Skullflower historian Roy K. Felps (Dead Angel e-zine), and the disc itself housed in a heavyweight black inner sleeve that is emblazoned with André Masson's iconic headless figure taken from the cover of Georges Bataille's Acéphale. Being that IIIrd Gatekeeper is one of our all-time favorite albums and a crucial dose of psychedelic, droning heaviness that was prescient in it's lumbering power, we wanted to present this reissue to longtime disciples and newcomers to Skullflower's music in a deluxe package unlike anything we have done before. In addition, the album features a remastering by Scott Hull (Pig Destroyer) at Visceral Sound that has likewise been approved by Skullflower's Matthew Bower.
The designs shown above are mock ups and the final printed shirt may vary slightly in size, color, and/or position. This preorder will be limited to the number of sets ordered by November 10th. All limited-edition t-shirt/CD preorder packages will ship out to customers around May 20th via 1st class mail/1st class international.
If you would like to preorder the CD without having to order the shirt, you may do so by using the shopping cart buttons below the preorder buttons. All CD-only IIIrd Gatekeeper preorders will come with the 1" acetate button set, which will only be available with preorders received by November 15th - after that, the artwork templates will be destroyed. PLEASE NOTE that CD-only preorders will not ship out to customers until November 15th.

GREY DATURAS ON TOUR ACROSS THE US - DEAD IN THE WOODS REISSUE CD OUT NOW
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

This past Thursday, we finally got to see Grey Daturas live when they kicked off their current U.S. tour in Washington D.C at the Velvet Lounge, and they flattened me with a crushing set of improvised psychedelic sludge that exceeded all of my expectations. These cats are one of the heaviest improv bands on the planet, and you owe it to yourself to go and see them play if they are coming anywhere near your burg. They were hitting some subsonic bass tones during their set that I thought were going to rattle the teeth right out of my skull. Seriously, check out the tours page and try to catch them if you can, you won't regret it.

After DC, the Grey Daturas were heading up the East Coast and will be going out to Alaska (what the hell?) to play a couple of shows in Anchorage, then jetting down the West Coast on tour with the mighty THRONES ! This marks the first time any Crucial Blast band has hit Alaskan soil - if you're dwelling in the land of grizzly bears and oil spills and are looking to have your skull flattened by the GREY DATURAS superheavy psychedelia, here are the stats:
10/18/2007 Anchorage, Alaska @ Paddle Boat Cafe w/ Over/Under, Wolfblitzer...all ages, 7pm, $10 admission
10/19/2007 Anchorage, Alaska @ the Kodiak Bar, 10pm 21+, $10 admission.
10/20/2007 Anchorage, Alaska @ the Crossroads Bar, 10pm, 21+, $10 admission.

"If the melbourne sunshine puts a smile on most of its native's faces, this must be compensated for by the scowls of the Grey Daturas, an improvisational three piece intent on wiping all that is bright, clean and decent from the sunkissed land and drowning it in a muddy grave in the gape of the Pacific. "Repeat Until False" rides leaden and brutal, striating and immolating all in its path. "The Hanging Man Is No Peacock" twists in the wind, Bonnie Mercer's guitar harmonics like crows picking the corpse's eye while the sullen and cruel drums and bass of Robert McManus and Robert Mayson look on with impassive, unflinching, sunken stares. Although they cite the Stooges and Sonic Youth as influences, this is altogether darker." - THE WIRE (UK), April 2005

The reissue of GREY DATURAS's crushing 2004 album Dead In The Woods is available NOW from Crucial Blast, and released just in time for the mammoth upcoming US tour from Melbourne, Australia trio. Long out of print and originally released through the Crashing Jets imprint, Dead In The Woods is a massive exhortation of lumbering metallic sludge rock, freely improvised noise, and sky-streaking psychedelia, roving the murky void between The Dead C, Hawkwind, crushing sludge metal, and Skullflower's heaviest jams. This re-issue features a full
remastering by Scott Hull at Visceral Sound, and comes in a 4-panel case printed by Stumptown Printers.

All orders of Dead In The Woods will also come with a full color tour poster and a vinyl sticker while supplies last!

WEBSTORE UPDATE: MONDAY OCTOBER 14th 2007
-------------------------------------------
The featured release for this week is the new album from Mammal, Lonesome Drfiter, which has the Detroit noise artist moving way beyond the skeletal industrial dirge and brutal distorted noise of his previous releases and creating a kind of psychedelic bedroom doom, with haunting folk guitars and world weary singing situated between bouts of crushing drum machine beats, distorted sludge riffs, and blasts of boiling fuzz. The album has the heavy isolated vibes of the best one-man black metal bands, but this isn't black metal, it's not metal at all really, although it's oppressively heavy and noisy. A real knockout of an album that reshapes the underground noise paradigm in the same way that Prurient's Pleasure Ground did. We've got this available on both CD and a deluxe limited edition double LP, and it's highly recommended to those that are into aurally challenging, deeply personal exercises in cleansing distortion.

Some other excellent new releases in this week: a tour EP from Denver's country-sludge heavies Across Tundras that we grabbed a handful of off of the band when they came through Baltimore a few weeks ago; a new split 7" featuring Agoraphobic Nosebleed and Total Fucking Destruction, with three tracks each from the drum machine driven grindlords and Philly's psychedelic blast freaks, packaged in an eyepopping full color sleeve with awesome artwork from Florian; a split 10" between the Screamers-inspired electro punk grinders Team Robespierre and the awesome ritual sludge of Brevator; an awesome new CD that features the latest collaboration between Nadja and Fear Falls Burning, teaming up for an hour long slab of crushing guitar drone and dreamy, fuzzsoaked doom; a killer album called Lament For The Addicts from the French band Hangman's Chair, which sounds like a cross between Alice In Chains and the heaviest freaking doom/sludge metal on earth...don't let the Alice In Chains reference spook you, this album rules, with some of the heaviest, most soulful sludge detonations this side of Goatsnake; and a new 3" CD-R from Decimation Blvd., a new solo project from one of the guys from noise rockers Cream Abdul Babar, dishing out some top-notch crusty industrial plod.

I just got turned on to a UK band called Fall Of Efrafa that plays an epic brand of crusty hardcore that's also heavily influenced by both expansive post-rock and the rabbit society mythology of Richard Adam's classic novel Watership Down. They have two albums out that we just got in stock, Owsla and Elil, each one part of an ongoing trilogy, and the music crushes - imagine an apocalyptic chamber rock band that builds long, mesmerizing instrumentals into rampaging dark hardcore and crushing tribal dirge, a massive hybrid of Godspeed You Black Emperor combined with His Hero Is Gone.

You can now get two free underground mags from us with any order over $10, by request...we now carry the resuscitated Arthur Magazine as well as a cool xerox zine called Healing Cancer, just let us know if you want to pick either of them up with your order!

And there's a bunch of rad older titles in this week - the avant-grind bomb-blast of Antigama's Discomfort, 7000 Dying Rats comedy-grind powerhouse The Sound Of No Hands Clapping, crucial Eyehategod collections, the hard to find Lysol album from Melvins, recent releases from Air Conditioning, Agalloch, Derelict Sermon, Hammers Of misfortune, and much more!

Head over to the Crucial Blast Webstore to check out all of the new stuff.
