Hey all

I had this user forever, and i dont think i ever posted anything yet.

So i've begun doing some stuff in my spare time with recording in cubase. Not my first time, but i haven't dug really deep into this world. But one thing that always was on my mind, is if i am able to make some sort of project framework for all my future cubase projects?

Heres what i mean, if that doesnt make sense:

If i alredady did one song, with drums, bass and guitar i would like to be able to save all the settings... Alle the eq'ing, levels of the different channels etc etc. But with no real music in it... so when i load this "framework" i can just concentrate on playing, and the sound will be the same as the last song. Does that make any sense? I hope so.

Haha, really? Its that easy? Jesus....

/Edit:

ok, just tried and worked out nicely. Thanks then. Only 1 thing though. When i create my new project and i MyTemplate (as i named my template) it also includes all the recordings from the project that was the base of that template. I guess thats normal? So the idea is to just delete these old recordings then?

delete the waveforms ("recordings" as you call it), and then re-save the template.

Depending on where you save the template, there is a chance that every time you load it, the default audio folder (the place where the recorded audio is stored) will be the ORIGINAL audio folder the original template you made saves to, because Cubase may recognize it as a project, not necessarily a template.

Creating your new project folders prior to starting a new project and copying the template to that new folder should alleviate the problem, though.

So what your saying is theres a chances that if i use the template in a new project, i might fuck up the project that the template was based on?

jap, because files may have the same name ans then files may be overwritten.
just make sure you save the template under a new name and into another folder!!!

here's how i do it, i have a main folder for projects that is called CP. (Cubase Projects)in this folder i have more folders, one for every project!
so every project has it's own folder wit cubase and audio data and nothing will get mixed up.

cheers

meh, not really....What I was getting at is that if you just opened up the "template" you saved without moving it into a new project folder for the project you want to use the template for, then the recorded audio for that new project will be saved in the old audio folder for the project in which the template was created.

Creating new project folder PRIOR to you starting a new project in Cubase and then copying the template into that new folder should alleviate the problem, I thini. Simply saving a project without any audio in it does not necessarily make it a template that can be copied to wherever you want...Cubase will try to store the audio recorded in the "template" session in the project folder the "template" was initially created.

It's an easy problem to remedy, and may not be an issue at all.

empty the pool before you save the template

make sure you DONT choose erase option (just choose remove from pool)
also make sure you do a save as before you save as again, that way you wont hurt the original project.

template projects don't remember folder specific pool data

so when you start a new session made from a template project, the audio folder is placed within the new project folder.
you should get in the habit of making every single project in a new folder. never put projects for DIFFERENT things in the same folder.

Some of the things you mention i do understand.

I always have a specific folder for each new project. I thought everybody did that?

OK here's how i do.

1) Save my first project as a template. (File -> Save Template -> "myTemplate")

2) Close the current project

3) Create new project (File -> new project)
3a) Chose myTemplate
3b) Select working folder (Creating a new folder for this)

When i do it like that i have a new project that looks EXACTLY like my old project, incl. the audio files, midi tracks etc etc. It even plays.

What i want to do next is start deleting the existing audio clips, so i can record some new ones? And that can be done without interferring with the old project?

Just delete all audio and midi files from the current project before saving a template. Then close the current project without saving so when you open it again your project will be unharmed and you have a blank template.

Right click in the project window > select all > delete > save as template > close project folder without saving the actual file.
