i agree Blitzy, there are a few things that deserve to be in there but The White Stripes, The Offspring, Incubus, Magic Dirt, Good Charlotte?!?!?!

I dont think its that, its just a lot of people dont care enough to look any further, they just have the radio on at work and buy the albums of whatever singles they like, and then only put albums on when they are having a party or something...

Yeah that is a good point also. Alot of people will like songs because they are familiar with them, and they get familiar with them by hearing them on the radio 3 times a day at work or whatever. If DIO was played as often as Delta Goodrem he may be storming up the charts too.

Spawny is right. People are inherently lazy. Most of the music buying public only buy music from artists they hear on the radio or see on TV. They're not really fans, they're just consumers, buying a commodity that's advertised in the mainstream media. Top 40 radio is just a 24 hour advertisement for the 50 or so artists they play each day.

As a case in point, I briefly shared a place with a woman who was proud of the fact that she had "all" of Pink Floyd's albums. When I one day pointed out that there were in fact seven Pink Floyd albums released prior to Dark Side of the Moon, she said she had no idea! She'd only ever heard stuff from DSOTM and beyond, and was too lazy to even check if there were other albums out there.

Surely, as metal fans, you all recognise that charts are merely a way of enhancing the herd mentality of the mainstream, corporate-suckled buying public and therefore have no basis in the measurement of the real music-loving public's opinion?

Or do y'all just like getting pissy cos people don't like the same stuff as you do?;)

The charts are rigged anyway. Does anyone really believe that Delta Goodrem sold 1/4 million CDs in a week?
Yep. These figures refer to the number of units the stores order from the distributor, not the number sold from the stores to the consumers.... so I'd believe that 250,000 units were shipped in a week because she would be the number one priority artist for her record company at the time without a doubt.
