My iPod has screwed up yet again and here I am waiting for it to be repaired. This will be my second replacement since getting one in February. Does everybody have problems like this so often or am I just really unlucky. Judging from what they've said I think they are just going to be replacing it again. Not that I'm complaining about their willingness to get you a working iPod as soon as possible but it just seems like they might want to make a product that doesn't need professional maintenance that often and when it does need help can be fixed in some way besides replacing it. It just seems awfully wasteful.

They replaced mine for $70 when the battery died the first time and recently I took the replacement one in to the Genius Bar because it was missing a row of pixels and they just gave me a new one on the spot.

Minx the person next to me at the genius bar had that problem, they gave them a new one, maybe they'll do the same for you. Isn't it strange though that all of us that have them have experienced some kind of malfunction?

I work in a shop that sells iPods and I go out of my way to not sell them. I must admit though that when Apple get their penises out of their mouths they tend to do well at caring for their customers. That's not very often though

my nomad hasn't had a problem yet--knock on wood--and it's like what, two years old or more at this point?

aysha's ipod is also over a year old and hasn't yet had a problem (20 gig 4th gen clickwheel). i did get her an iskin within a month of having the ipod so i don't know if that helps.

I've had a 20 gig 4th gen iPod for over a year and within the last 3 months it's started freezing when I run. I know that it has moving parts and that anything with moving parts runs the risk of messing up when being bounced around, but half the allure of the iPod is being active with it.

I have the same iPod and had that exact same problem among others. Does it stop working on you about 18 minutes into the run?

Indeed it does, and the only remedy is to let it burn out its battery, then recharge it. It's most infuriating to say the least, particularly when I'm really getting into a running mode with the music.

one of the reasons I went with an alternative is because of that exact thing--the freeze leading to battery runout. my nomad's frozen three times and each time I just opened the case and popped out the battery, put it back in, and then turned it back on. voila.

when mine freezes I can just reboot, hold the menu and select buttons at the same time for 7-10 seconds, its fine after that, besides when it isn't fucked otherwise it doesn't tend to freeze.

I have had an ipod for about 2 and a half years... I honestly didnt take care of it well at all (left it in the hot car for like 8 hours at a time almost every day this summer) and about a month and a half ago the battery would only charge for about 2 hours. I read some stuff online... emptied the ipod and reformatted it and now it stays charged for about 5 hours. I have never had any issues with it other than that... and for anyone having battery problems http://www.ipodbattery.com/ this site amongst many others sells replacement batteries with kits that help you open the ipod up and replace it yourself. From what I hear the process isnt particularly hard as long as you are careful, and these batteries are usually a vast improvement over the ones that apple used when they made your ipod. 1st generation ipods because they have such a large case can house a battery that lasts something like 22 hours at this point with no problem at all. Better than that though... these batteries only cost about 30$ depending on where you get them from. So if you dont have that apple-care plan or whatever it is called you really dont have much to lose as long as you are careful when you open the case.

Hope that helps some folk!
