What does everyone think of this band? I remember getting their debut album Futility in 2005 and admiring their originality, mixing weird vocals into semi-complex death metal arrangements. I thought the band had lots of potential and was curious what they'd do next.

It seems they signed with RR and have released their sophomore album which is getting lots of press. Has anyone heard it? How does it hold up compared to their debut?

Thoughts?

I've heard of this band, and heard good things, but never actually checked them out. You've reminded me and I'll definately check out both of these albums.

Thanks

This band are really good compared to the bands the label used to sign. RR is certainly getting its act together these days.

I played the demo versions of Ovum and The Hinderers a lot after Mikael mentioned them in a post about a year or more ago.

Picked up the album the day it came out (two weeks ago), and there are def some cool tracks (Subterfuge is a huge standout, first single) but I have only played it a few times since. it reminds me of DevilDriver - competent, thrashy, sometimes you can get into it, but after 6-7 songs I'd rather listen to something else that sounds fresher. the vocals are also kinda boring - they do what they need to but yet they still leave me flat. some cool solos and slower semi-proggy sections in some of the songs, so that changes things up a bit.

it's a good album, it just didn't enthrall me the way I hoped it would.
nevertheless, I'm sure it will do well w/ Roadrunner pushing it hard. and it's certainly a step up from most of the metalcore that's still popular.

I became aware of Daath when James Murphy showed everyone the mixes he'd come up with for the demo that got them signed.

I can't say they ever blew me away, and to this day they don't do much for me. May have to give them another chance.

i've heard probably 3 or 4 songs from the Hinderers and while i do agree they are better than most of the mainstream metalcore coming out of RR these days, these guys are still overhyped in my eyes. They were touted to be some groundbreaking force in metal and completely missed that mark. These dudes are just a bit above average metal.

I gess thats what i get for listening to Roadrunner.
