So, after about 18mths of not being used I fired up my Marshall 9005 power amp at rehearsal yesterday. Everything sounded amazing, until the smell started....then the smoke....I just powered it off and left it alone (had to carry on regardless) in the hope a good clean will sort it out before next rehearsal.

I'm really hoping it's just the fact that the amp is dusty, if it's not that then I'm screwed 'cos I'm more than skint at the moment and can't afford to buy myself a decent bass head yet!!

Anyone see any hope for me in this situation or is smoke only ever a sign of a failing transformer?

Years ago before I know better I owned a few marshalls. Everytime I had a fault with them I took it to the factory in Milton Keynes where they did a while you wait repair and told me it was free this time but never again. I think this happened at least 3 times with a solid state power amp. They even did a full rewire and revalve of a 1970s head and only charged me £25
