Dan - What hardware/software do you use?

I asked this question in another thread but thought I'd be more likely to get a response from Dan in a new thread.

Dan, what software do you use to create/produce your music? Also what kind of computer do you have (PC/Mac) and what are the specs?

I'm asking because I am just starting off and would like to know what to do in starting to make/produce music

I have a pretty good computer (Quad Core, 8GB RAM) but not much knowledge of the software/hardware side of things. I'm using Cubase 5 at the moment and find it to be pretty good but don't know if there's better available.
