I know this recording is ancient... but it's one of my favorite snare sounds of all time.

the "crack" is amazing. Unfortunately the audio quality of this "upload" is only up to 480 so it is a little "wishywashy"

not exactly my cup of tea but yeah, hitting hard is your best bet.
not much close snare mic in that I would think.

A two ply snare head that is dampened to hell and tuned fairly high is a good start. If the snare sounds boomy, ringy or too sizzly from the snares in the room then take care of that quick. High Pass THEN compress the shit out of it.
