Daylight Dies

Demonspell, I think you misunderstood him. He asked whether Agalloch and Daylight Dies was the answer to the greatness of Swedish bands like Opeth and Katatonia. He didn't actually compare the music itself... A lot of American bands have recently only been poor copies of inventive European bands so I think what he's asking is whether these are America's answers to the innovation and quality bands such as Katatonia and Opeth brought. For the record, my answer is YES as I think Agalloch and Daylight Dies are the best American bands since, fuck knows, probably since the heyday of Bay Area thrash and all.. :p

Also, another American band REALLY worth listening to is Woods of Ypres, www.woodsofypres.ca (Canada is also America)

Thanks for the support! Thats pretty much what I meant to say. As an American I WOULD love to hear more bands in the vein of Opeth/Katatonia from here, but not cheap imitations :Smug:

Daylight Dies is a very good band. I wouldn't "directly" compare them with Katatonia. They are in the similar vein, but there are still some musical differences between the two. Not that I am saying that Katatonia wasn't an influence on them because they obviously had a huge impact on their musical style and direction.

Anyway, it's nice to see a band come out of America that is good and refreshing for a change. We Americans have a pretty plagued metal scene right now, so we cling to the underground for whatever is good and "more fulfilling" than the predominant nu-metal, punk, and pop music that runs everything around here. Daylight Dies is the type of band that we won't catch up to for a while..... a long while. It's about time that we have a band go out and make the music that they want to make for the artistic fulfillment and the scene, rather than for the money and the fame that comes with it.
