Deadsoil - Sacrifice
Lifeforce Records - LFR 060-2 - June 13th, 2006
By Brandon Strader
The next logical step in the Soil trilogy, we now have Deadsoil. After all, all life begins as Soil... then we all get jobs (Soilwork)... after paying some taxes, we all die, and thus is Deadsoil. Honestly, that is most-likely not true at all, but it seems like a pretty solid story.
The first impression I received from this album, is that it is fun metalcore, with plenty of melody, and the required heaviness. Plenty of double bass when needed, and even a couple blastbeats here and there, though the bass drum's high-end click is so present it almost sounds like a snare... lay off on the triggers a bit, guys!
I have seen where Deadsoil's new release has gotten lower than decent reviews from various zines, and my only question is, "Why?" It certainly contains everything a person expects from - well - metalcore music... It's got the word-slurring screams, the thrashy riffing and melodic leads, and I've already mentioned the percussion - it sounds very brutal as well. Nobody cares about the bass guitar. So really, why did it get such a low score?
I'm not going to say that Sacrifice is an evolution in metal or an innovation at all, but it is very well-done metalcore, and that's all you can expect from Sacrifice. If you're seeking something fun to play in the car, or whatever you do, then pick this thing up if you haven't already gotten Killswitch Engage, Trivium, As I Lay Dying, Unearth, All That Remains, need I go on?
7/10
